you'd probably manage... but if you are looking down there instead of straight ahead when driving fast, I'm glad you are on the roads in a country far far away....

Rewire the service LEDs on the cluster as a shift light.

Come to think of it ......thatâ┚¬Ã¢”ž¢s a f#$%ken good idea
Coz when the car switches on you still get your reading and when the car starts they go dead anyway
But you know what would be cool if you could actually wire them in a way that they go from green to yellow and then red when you have to shift?
Oiii !! Doz any one know how to wire that then??
*big round of Applause to Brianmoooore*

ace idea brain
could it be done so they go from yellow to red? the electronics involved would be unfriendly though....

its easy to get then to go on when you need to shift you will just run a wire from the shift light to the LED lights but how to get the to run up would be a difficult task im sure of it !
but il open the shift light tonight and have a look ..
will keep you posted and might post a few pics of my discovery !

Principle of the circuit is simple enough. You'd need an ignition pulse to voltage converter - the electronics from a tacho with a two wire moving coil meter as a display. The voltage from this would need to be fed to something like a LM3194 LED bar graph driver.
This could be set up to light the first green light at, say 300RPM before the optimum change point, then light the rest of the greens, yellow and finally red as well as the optimum RPM is reached.
One for Smithy318i, after he's done the window modules!
