From what i hear, it doesn't look good. I believe it will be kept running for the forseeable future while they try and find a victim. They are not commisioning any more work and using what they have. They better do my M5 article before they close up shop, i need a sale !
I wonder how this will affect the forthcoming donnington show ?

There'll be a knock on effect here as some folk won't renew their subscriptions - it doesn't look good at all.pacerpete wrote:From what i hear, it doesn't look good. Looks like I'll be lucky with my article - it's supposed to be in next month's.
I'm sure that Donnington's organised by the Car Club this year.

Oh this is odd.
I thought it was popular? Did Andy drink all the profits?

To be fair, I'm not at all surprised. The staff writers would struggle to write a shopping list. Every copy is littered with loads of factual inaccuracies and bad grammar.

Why would I buy a magazine to read bad copy and articles that show no research has been carried out by the writer. Lazy sloppy journalism IMHO.
I'm not including Everett in that at all. Without kissing his arse I think his stuff is the only reason the mag continued to sell at all.

I know where your coming from, if you compare something like TBMW to the likes of EVO the differences in quality of write ups is huge. I realise the EVO journalists no doubt earn alot more, but even so i do expect a quality above what your average man could write! as said these chaps get paid for it and no doubt studied it at college/uni.ste wrote:People who post here aren't paid to do so, and aren't trying to make people pay money to read their posts.E30Mark wrote:That is a shame, TBMW was the only mag i bought....

Shame to hear it's folding. I've always been more interested in the tuning side of things though so have usually bought PBMW, still, was a decent enough mag.

I definately prefered Total to Performance but there you go, and they were interested in featuring the Touring when its finished!
I've noticed what ste is talking about while reading through some of the issues, I'm no Oracle on BMW's but I found myself correcting some of the mistakes!

Didn't know about this at all....And like some of the other guys, I actually prefered tbmw to pbmw.

To be honest I rarely buy any BMW mags as they are all pretty much as bad as each other. I'll buy specific issues if they have one of my cars in or a friend's car but that's about it.
I subscribe to 'Evo' and would recommend anyone that hasn't looked at it to buy a copy. The writing and photography are leagues ahaead of the 'fan boy' single marque mags.
Having said that I do buy 'Performance VW' quite often. The VW scene is lightyears ahead of the BMW one - have a look in there for real innovation and proper modifications.
I'll also read my neighbour's copy of 'Practical Performance Car' as the whole ethos is spot on and it's written by properly knowledgeable enthusiats. Ditto 'Retro', there the odd article in there that floats my boat.
That's about it. I used to love 'Cars and Car Conversion' before it disappeared and tried to find a substitute. I think 'PPC' has come nearest especially with Dave Walker's diary articles continuing into there.
I bought 'Track and Race Car' for a while as some of the subject matter was good. Plus, they reported on the Stock Hatch Championship that I was competing in. That magazine surpassed all others on terrible copy though. It was like a GCSE project knocked up the day before it had to be handed in. The editor and main staff writer are brothers and I do wonder if maybe their Dad put up all the cash for the magazine as neither of them has an ounce of journalistic skill.

EVO & PPC are my regular intake, some times Retro Cars, but that comes 2nd to PPC in my view. I also have the father of Evo - Performance Car magazine back issues going to 1986. It has always stood head & shoulders above the rest in my view.
I've seen Everett writing articles in Retro cars and in a few other mags so presumably he won't starve, but a shame nontheless.

Performance Car Magazine rocked. I have some of those too. I buy old copies of any car magazines with specific articles that interest me. I recently bought a copy of 'Car' from 1989 with an e34 M5 road test in it. Looking back at the old adverts in them is great. Companies back then offering tuning parts for e30s - Zender bumpers and 4 square headlight conversions and wooden dash kits.
Nice back then to just be able to buy brand new BBS RS wheels from Ripspeed too.
