Kevlar is a light and strong 'metal' - usually seen as the inner of a bulletproof jacket, or body armour (some motorbike clothing has it) and Mountainbikers kit too

Kevlar is actually a brand name.

Its pretty much like carbon fibre and in fact carbon fibre and kevlar can be woven into the same sheets for different uses.

A kevlar bullet proof jacket doesnt stop a bullet because its hard - it kind of grabs the bullet in the weave and stops it going through, dissipating (sp) the force of the bullet, hence the fcuk off big bruise and/or broken ribs under the jacket :eek:
