What i need to know: how to remove the back board (for re-upholstering)
also i have an 86 model the backboard needs to be cut 2 allow 6x9's

but bellow are little wells wich are not only metal so bad for magnets ( correct me if im wrong[/img])
but also prohobits speaker depth.

and changing of front speakers loks like it's gona be a bastard! any suggestions on that

when i done me old 316 coupe i just took a grinder to the rear shelf and cut all the metal out the way of the 6x9s and as for the front if your putting new speakers in the foot wells its jusst a case of removing the screw from the centre of the panel and it will pull out :D

kunjani

have you read the ice article in the articles section before embarking on this project?

if you remove your rear seat squab (pull it up from the front) you should expose two gold coloured bolt headed screws that hold the lower corners of the rear seat back. undo these and you can lift your seat back up and away. if you have a trim removal tool, you can lever it (carefully) under the rear shelf seat belt plastic covers and they'll lift away, if not then a large flat blade will do. a 17 socket will remove the seat belt lower mounting bolts and the rear shelf trim will lift away with the seat belts sliding through their cut-outs.
consider cutting your rear shelf trim to allow speaker sounds through then re-covering it with acoustic carpet - that way you'll have speakers firing directly into the cabin and it'll all look factory and stealthy.

if you're doing this properly then how much dynamat/sound deadening are you using and where? all the above is a little easier/more accessible if the rear quarter panels are out of the way first, they'll have to come out if your sound deadening anyway. it's also a great opportunity to waxoyl the tops of the inner arches and inside the sills.

dont know if this this is of interest to anybody on the zone, but ive had enough e30's to know that if u want decent sound reproduction u gotta get down with the mdf and make ur own builds. which is exactly what im gonna do over the next week or so. im in the process of starting to fabricate my own builds to replace the kick panels jobbies that bmw so kindly supplied us. am gonna make my kickpanels take a pair of 6.5" component speakers which will be angled towards the listeners ears. am currently thinking if the builds are good enough ( i'm verging on perfectionism) i will possibly make a batch with the intention of offering them at a good price to zoners. bear in mind that audioscape charge Ԛ£180 for doorpods which look a bit obvious that u have a sound system within, im hoping that if i use the original locations then it won't look out of place. ive already thought of ways to reposition the bonnet release etc. what are your thoughts? anybody done this with any success?
