Here I am trying to re-learn things about the E30 so here's your chance to brag, tell me and the rest of the forum the most interesting fact you know about the E30. Any model, any nationality, and modification.
Think the most interesting fact i know is that BMW made a four wheel drive version of the car called the 325ix available in Gemany in 2 door saloon and Touring. Not a great fact considering some I have heard but thats the most interesting one I knew before I came on here.
YOUR TURN.............

I've read somewhere that Alpina developed the M20 2.5, but BMW said thanks and nicked it off them like they did with the 4.6is V8 X5 engine!
So that was how the 2.7's came about when they went back to the drawing board?!

1982-1990 2 doors - total of 1,108,972
1982-1990 4 doors - total of 1,056,563
I can list it by model but it may bore you
I wonder how many are still on the road? - Anyone from the DVLA here? I think Total BMW had an article listing the curent number still registered
the highest UK sales year was 1989 with 29 072 being produced
You can see where I get my name from now

This may be a stupid question but how come there were sales in 80/81?
Were these just pre-orders?

Gotta agree it's a useless gimmick!
For me the most interesting fact is the way the front wheels bank, I may be showing my stupidity here but I don't think many other cars at the time did it?

Interesting e30 fact ... erm - If you have the doors open you can operate the electric windows and sunroof with the ignition off.
Also some cool trickery with the OBC but can't remember how to access this.
Interesting E36 fact - There is a sequence with the ignition barrel and the mileage reset button that gets Speedo and Rev counter to fly all the way round and then back again ... AKA Mercedes McLaren SLR Style on startup.

I think the parking light thing is quite useful, say if one side of your car is poking out a little too far into the road or something

yup tis a yank version
the thing about the e36 speedo/rev counter, apparently it also flashes a load of the lights etc, its some kind of self test ive been told. its something like you hold down the mileage reset button and turn the ignition (not all the way presumably) but i never got the chance to try this on the z3 before its demise!

Mrlee30 your german friend needs to 1. stop listening to bon jovi, 2. cut up his membership for the David hasselhof fan club, 3. get his mullet and tache sorted and finally read a few more books about e30s. BMW DID make touring IXs and touring 324TDs, i have been involved in the demise of both and seen them in the flesh.

The m20 engine was originally called an M60, it was renamed for the E28,E30 models. Don't ask why i don't know! The M60 tag was revived later on in about 92/93 for the 3.0 and 4.0 litre V8's

If you have the OBC - in the range function - press the 1 button and the 1000 button (I think) and it will tell yuo how much fuel the car recons there is in the tank!!

this is probably know by all but i will say it any way the m3 engines block is the same as the on in the old 2002 and was also in the highest horsepower F1 racing car to be built to date the m10 the engine produced 1500horse power and considering the block was only a 1.4 liter four pot at this point (i might be wrong about the liters but i dont think i am) not bad really .................ok ...ok.........it did have a HUGE turbo but hey how cool........................j

I remember seeing a program about this.unbelievable stuff.wasn't there something about them preferring to use second hand blocks for this also which they would leave outside to weather harden, the lads would pop outside to have a p*ss on them to help the process.i sh*t you not!325dude wrote:this is probably know by all but i will say it any way the m3 engines block is the same as the on in the old 2002 and was also in the highest horsepower F1 racing car to be built to date the m10 the engine produced 1500horse power and considering the block was only a 1.4 liter four pot at this point (i might be wrong about the liters but i dont think i am) not bad really .................ok ...ok.........it did have a HUGE turbo but hey how cool........................j

some e30Ԛ´s possibly only motronic 1.0 had the gauges tacho and speedo jump after you turn the car off,
I have only seen it in 2 cars and itԚ´s owned by the same guy,
.
another funny fact,
If you let your engine overheat it will not require ignition to run, will not run well but stumple, also has to have carb,

Interesting fact although not E30 related. The M1 had gilloutine throttles to reduce turbulence caused by a butterfly on full throttle openings!
