Piston to rod orientation. HELP!

Need technical Q/A then you're in the right place

Morning!

Can anyone tell me if the conrods need to be orientated one way or another relative to the pistons?

Turns out I'm a complete burk and didn't note down which way they were before taking them apart :(

Ok looking at the photo's from my 2.7 build the con rods go in this way:

The big end bearing shells have a locating groove in the rod and cap, the grooved side of the rod faces the drivers side of the block (oil filter side) and the grooved side of the cap mates up with the grooved side of the rod also.

Ant- The 2.7 is running in very nicely, due its first oil change any day now.
Your smooth chip is awesome, masses of torque everywhere :D

There is an arrow on the piston but wasn't sure if he had fitted new pistons or not !

Hurrah!

Many thanks for the info, got all of the pistons fitted to their rods and in the block :)

Just need to wait for the new big-end bolts to turn up so I can seal my newly built bottom end off.

Next thing: Make a short throw gear shifter for the new gearbox :)

Just a quick addition, make sure all the pistons are in the right way round ! the arrows on the piston tops face the front of the engine.

If you get it wrong you'll very likely clash with the inlet valves 8O

This is the correct piston orientation :

Yeah got that one, can double check it as the bigger valve cutout corresponds with the inlet side of the engine.
