Got the chance of fitting a full set of 205/55 15 Michelin Pilot Exalto tyres to my car next week - does anyone know if these are any good?

have run them on various cars and can throughly recommend
they have a nice stiff sidewall which leads to predictable breakaway
they aren't the noisiest of tyres and they wear very well
go for it

They dont seem to be in the same product line as the Toyo T1r and Eagle F1s.
Makes me wonder why would anyone spend the money for a less tyre.

All 'performance' tyres wear fast.

I use the car for work every day (round trip of 70 miles) so I just need a tyre that will be good for all weathers and for a decent amount of miles.

I've had these Michelin Pilot Exalto tyres on my touring for a few years now and they are wearing very well especially compared to the Falkens which wore out in no time. The Michelins grip better than any other tyre I've driven on an E30. The directional tread gives a clearer feedback through to the steering wheel than the Falkens, with directional tread, and the Goodyears, without directional tread, that I've had on previously.
Tyres in general seem to work so much better these days compared to tyres of the early 1990s. The E30s span out much more on the tyres of the time if I remember correctly. Or perhaps I was just too young, inexperienced and an even worse driver back then!
Michelin Pilot Exalto tyres = good choice.

Just been playing around with the tyre pressures and it seems to drive better with 2.6 bar all round (as opposed to the recommended 2.4 front 2.6 rear). Haven't tested this at high speed yet though.

exalto 1s' are ok, but michelin had alot of complaints about them, so they only made them for a short while, the exalto 2s' are aparently the best wet weather performance tyres around, and don't wear down too fast, especially compared to the exalto 1s'

The point i was making is that the exalto is not a performance tyre which is why you are getting such good life out of them.nwmlarge wrote:apprently not if the exalto's are holding up just fine.

in which case ts-1's and r's and eagle f1's aren't either
as 888' etc would be the performance tyre no?
its a stupid point to go on about tbh

toyo 888's are a road legal cut slicks are they not? so not really in the same grouping as proxies and F1's, which leads us down to the mid range stuff like the exalto - for all u company car drivers out there, who want milege not grip

Yea, i have some rain sport 1s on my reps and they are a wicked mid range tyer, wear very well, fantastic in the wet and never let me down, you got to really give it some stick to get the back end to break.dazleeds wrote:thoughly reccomend uniroyal rainsport excellent tyres

In the dry ive no idea how they stack up against the others, will find out shortly as i am gonna try something different this time round.
