Hopefully that link works... Good video actually, shame the e30 doesn't stand a chance! Is it anyone off the zone?

Andrew... have you ever driven Cadwell? It's my local track (5 miles from home), and to me, the guy in the E30 was taking all the correct lines for the track. The Evo is by far much faster than a 325i...
Tricky course. Would love you to put your money where your mouth is and come for a track day with me at Cadwell. You'd have fun! In fact, it might be worth having an E30 Zone track event there... it would certainly sort the men out from the boys!

Looks like a fast track, but it doesnt look hard at all!
The Evo driver was lifting off the throttle mid corner on several occasions
The ring sorts the men from the boys.

Morat... it's really a bike track. There's only really space to pass on the few straights there are. It's a very technical circuit and is demanding, but is great fun to drive!
Andrew... touche!
- But they do call it the 'mini-ring'

Of course an E30 is trounced by an Evo. One is a good handling well balanced reasonably fast road car, the other is a boy racer special with all sorts of electric and mechanical trickery to make it go, not to mention a bloody great turbo.
There's been an Evo 7, then 8, in our yard for the last five years. Bloody fast, but 18 MPG on a good day, suspension that loosens your teeth and seats that require a visit to a chiropractor every week. Good track toy maybe, but totally impractical as a road car.
Thankfully the brother in law has now seen the light, and the window rattling jap crap has now gone and been replaced by a 535d.

it doesnt matter about the track, theres very few e30's that would come close to worrying an evo, especially around a track as they stick to the road like theyre on rails.

Yep, especially if you loose it in the esses! Nowhere to go except the barriers. I was there in my 320i last year and about 6 or 7 cars rapped it, all going through there! Wonderful track though...

Not a lot of run off there, plenty of chances to have a big smash but it does look an interesting track

I was comprehensively destroyed by an Evo6 on Sunday.
I passed him on a dual carriageway as he just bimbled along, which probably woke him up. I then got stuck behind a Astravan which when it finally moved over I passed easily at XXX mph. Looked in my rear view mirror and stomping up behind me at an est 130-140 was this Lilac/blue Evo 6 moved over and just thought "jesus thats fast"
Dropped in behind him (albeit it several car lengths back then watched
as a Police bike came down the hill towards out little high speed convoy and ignored both of us
Anyway I wouldnt do Cadwell in the car, its not really suitable as above its a bike track primarily.

Cant say i agree, a well sorted E30 would worry a Evo.fuzzy wrote:it doesnt matter about the track, theres very few e30's that would come close to worrying an evo, especially around a track as they stick to the road like theyre on rails.

Cadwell Park is one of the most technically difficult circuits in the UK, several crests etc. (Hence known as 'The Mini Ring'.) I've competed there many times and the guy in the Evo doesn't look clueless imo.
proper crap Cadwell driving video....
It's unfair to expect any E30 to challenge a decent Evo, they're in a different leauge.

Did anyone watch the Top gear where they put an evo8 up against a lambo, the evo8 was on it tail all the way round the track until the lambo spun out?
Beats me why people try to compare a car with more electronic than the space shuttle to keep it on the road to a 20 yr old E30. Its like comparing an E30 M3 to a Reliant Robin
But having said that i would prefer a M3 to an EVO as i really do hate the Jap crap

Unless the Evo is worried that the E30 would drift into the side of his Evo

How could it drift into the side of him when as soon as they pull off the E30 would be left for dead, unless you mean when the EVO laps him on the second lap that is

It does look like a hard but interesting circuit. Not much room for overtaking - or being overtaken though!
Hope to get some more track days in next year and will try and include Cadwell.

You can overtake. Drivers just have to be courteous and aware of other track users... like a good driver would be anyway!

Does look narrow, but a more interesting track than some. I'd be up for this as an end of year warm down.
The EVO is fast, I'm guessing it's 'breathed on', it's catches up to the E30 at an alarming rate, and passes what looks like an M5 on the way through.
There is SO much variation in talent at trackdays, unless you know the driving skills level there is not much point in watching a video and saying look at that 1.2 Fiesta passing that Scooby, just because the Scooby is taking good lines doesn't mean he is corner fast/braking hard, there are so many variables.
We will all get our asses handed to us by locals in Golfs/Polos at the 'Ring, they fly round and carry more speed through corners etc, it's not something I'm embarrassed about. I don't think Andy is bragging about his driving skill with his comments.
A decent E30 M3 will trouble a certain standard EVOs.
FFS I was passing Golf R32s and decent Porsche 911s in the wet at the 'Ring, doesn't mean by any stretch of the imagination that my car is quicker/handles better, it just means I'm stupid enough to try to go that quickly. And I almost paid the price after passing the Porka, as my mate Ben would explain.
(Sorry for the 'rant'!)

Unless the Evo is worried that the E30 would drift into the side of his Evo
driver: Sascha Salzer (Alpenrod)
vehicle: BMW E30 M3
laptime: 8.32 Min. (= 146,3 km/h)
Date: 05.08.2006
This is the new lap record (complete lap not BTG) for production cars in the so-called Castrol-Haugg Cup, a series run solely on the Nordschleife.
AFAIK It should be standard regarding engine and brake disc/pad sizes. Springs and dampers are not regulated apart from that they have to keep the original way they work, i.e. hydraulic telescopic dampers and helicoil springs. Rims should be 7Jx15 stock factory tyres.
Remember the above is a stock car doing the complete lap not BTG,
Here is the BTG time for a Evo
8:11 --- Mitsubishi Lancer EVO IX
Make your own mind up.

I don't follow your arguement. Okay, so what's BTG...? I'm guessing that has some effect on the times!
