Hi there,
I need a new clutch, mine is very nearly dead, and I'm off to the ring in a months time - so I think it needs doing sooner rather than later.
What is the best clutch to go for? Its going on an everyday car, is it a matter of going to GSF/ECP or is there a better alternative?
Thanks in advance,
Theo

I would advise not going for a really cheapo one, (I have done before and had judder and slip) although I got my M30 one from GSF and it is totally fine!

i had a 3 paddle on my 143brake mk1 XR2. that was the maddest thing i had ever done! paid well over a 3-er for it.
but dont expect standard engine mounts and perishables to last long, especially on a RWD car.

I sometimes drive a mate of mine's R32 Skyline on the road, it has a racing clutch that is like an on/off switch and is a total nightmare!
Personally, I would only ever fit a racing clutch on a racing car!
Uprated is good for road, especially if the engine has extra power, but (again, only personal choice) I'd just stick with a good quality standard replacement, from my experience.

i drove this gto twin turbo thingy, the bloke reckoned it was 600hp, felt more like 450 tho from other cars ive driven. anyway, it had a triple plate clutch. it was so weird. the only way to pull off was to find the bit and keep revving it, like tapping the throttle around the revs where the turbo come in. otherwise it grabbed and there wasnt enough power to move the car, and i stalled it lolDRIFTBOY wrote:I sometimes drive a mate of mine's R32 Skyline on the road, it has a racing clutch that is like an on/off switch and is a total nightmare!

Do they only sell Sachs clutches? Looking at the GSF website it just says R-623032700 CLUTCH KIT-228mm E30 325i 85>91 is this going to be sachs, or do I need to specify when ordering?Get a Sachs from ECP/GSF.

My nearest GSF (Canterbury) couldn't have been more helpful.
The guy there I dealt with with, took the clutch kit home one night and I went and got it, and gave him the cash, from his house as it was nearer to me than Canterbury and I didn't have to wait until the weekend to get it!
That is good service!

I don't think so, the bloke just didn't seem the type. You never know I suppose though! Either way I was happy!

the clutch on the 320 needs doing badly. i have only a tiny bit of bite and i only have to have it held down for 5 minutes and it starts snatching and juddering, even locks the rear wheels! so i would also like to know what one to have on the 320(must be sutable for a 325i conversion too as im useing 320 running gear)
thanks!!
thanks!!

Just get hold of a standard spec Sachs clutch, they're massively over specced as it is so don't worry to much about giving it some extra abuse
Bought mine off ebay for about Ԛ£40.

I just put a 325 clutch kit in my 320, as I got it cheap off a mate for Ԛ£30, and it works fine. Just a standard 325 clutch. It just feels really heavy - I'm assuming the 325 has better hydraulics. And that would obviously work with your 325 conversion later on.e30bmlover wrote:the clutch on the 320 needs doing badly. i have only a tiny bit of bite and i only have to have it held down for 5 minutes and it starts snatching and juddering, even locks the rear wheels! so i would also like to know what one to have on the 320(must be sutable for a 325i conversion too as im useing 320 running gear)

Same hydraulics - a 325 clutch IS really heavy compared to a 320.Firefly2005 wrote:e30bmlover wrote: Just a standard 325 clutch. It just feels really heavy - I'm assuming the 325 has better hydraulics. .

Really? Mine's really nice and light, or perhaps all the bike riding has given me strong legsSame hydraulics - a 325 clutch IS really heavy compared to a 320.
