Hi guys,

Went for an MOT and the guy pulled the probe out the exhaust with the reading heading towards 1800 ppm! This is bad aparently.

I have got a 285 cam and a chip from chipeduk. Passed the last MOT ok with both mods.

Just need a checklist of what to look for really. I was thinking maybe temp sensor but dont know how to test it. All the intake side is good, no leaks etc.

help me

P.S. I managed to loose my login details for my n3il_325i account and I no longer use the email address I signed up with. Who do I need to talk to?

Thx.

Got a new air cleaner in there.

The HC's were at 1800ppm and rising. I should know this but is that the CO reading or not? in which case I dont know.

Bascially your eyes smart if you stand near the rear of the car.

Only resistance values for the blue temp sensor I've got in my folder, are: 2.93k ohms at 16 degree C, and 860 ohms in hot water, (probably about 60-65 degree C straight from hot tap).
To give your symptoms the resistance would remain high when hot.

Thanks for that data dude, checked this evening and it is working corrently.

I am really at a loss on this one. Checked over all the sensors and connectors.

Thing is it starts and runs fine under all conditions its just running rich as hell. It really makes your eyes water if you are round the back.
Maybe more extream suggestions as to what might cause this. Just to add, it has probably been like this for a while just haven't noticed :/

Thx guys.

What colour are the spark plugs? have you tried changing them aswell???

Check all 6 to see if they look 'even' in colour.

HC stands for Hydrocarbons (particles of unburnt fuel) in ppm (parts per million), CO is obviously Carbon Monoxide and is expressed as a percentage (%).

Did you get a print out from the MOT place? Can you let us know CO concentration (%) and the Lambda ratio reading would help too, we can make a more informed diagnosis with the whole picture!

A lot of people to smooth the idle in the motronic cars mess about with the idle screw!

If you car is running rich, you must get it setup by a decent bosch autoelectrician, it worth as it can save time and money in the long run!

This is what someone had done to mine previously, not really an idle screw so to speak, you can't possibly do it right without the proper equipment.
