Hi fella's
Do any of you by chance have a pic of the 'molested' area of the bulkhead? Please don't try and describe where it is i need to see it before i start banging or cutting :)

Near the battery tray and you mentioned it in your 'to-do' list for Twiggy :P
I just want to fit it in position 3 :)

Proof removed from Twiggys thread

If you use position 3 the bulkhead will need a bit of beating in with a club hammer behind the cylinder head, or just next to the bottom of the battery tray.

is it really worth it? removing the box once in will be more work and it'll only sit about 10mm further back. (assuming you're going for the 'standardised' P3...)

oh incidentally i cured that amusing demonic central locking problem! the central locking control box was mounted upside down (who did that... :? :D ) and had filled halfway up with water!!! i dried it out and replaced a few corroded components and now it works a treat! result! :D

Yep, it was me what said it!

Sadly I didn't take a pic after I had bashed my bulkhead in. Although I bashed mine with the engine in and on it's mounts in pos 2, but with no gearbox on it so tilted it way forwards to give hammer access!

I also said I cut off the top bell housing bolt hole from the gearbox so it isn't wedged against the bulkhead for when I need to take the gearbox off. It's still tight but I got the gearbox on like it so it must be able to come off again!

If youv'e got an M20 engine in there now the back of the cylinder head is in pretty much the same place - only a little further away from the bulkhead.

Those e30.de mounts mustnt put the engine low enough - I have position 3 with my mounts and no firewall bashing was needed at all.

it comes down to motor bushings,
I used M20 height polys and the oil pan has only a few mmԚ´s from the subframe
With great challenges comes great engineering.

my mounts couldn't go any lower. since the new M20 rubbers have settled, the sump now just touches the steering rack (original one).

oh ed325i, don't forget to fit some brake pads! :D
