Mate the only way to make sure that you remove it correctly , is that you physically trace every wire back from the alarm to where it may be scotch locked or worse bodged up.
check for any relays you dont recognise and check your fusebox against the owners manual.
I had to do this with my e30. luckily the muppet who put the alarm on mine didnt buthcher the wiring so it was pretty straight forward.... i think it was a moss alarm as well......very 80's.
have you got any photos you could link up on your post.
www.imageshack.us , is a good place to host photos but dont forget the links to the photo's.
paste the exact links it gives you and re edit your question above and then maybe another zoner will i.d it for you.
cheers

If you do this, you'll end up with a non working car.lukeb wrote:if i just cut the alram box out and tape up the wires would this work. then trace all the wires out?
Alarms are usually fitted above the glovebox, above the drivers legs, or sometimes behind the front centre console, directly under the heater unit.

i have a key which can turn the alram on or off. the box unit is under the bonnet near the fuse box.

With most of the OE original alarms this is just the sounder, with the electronics above the glovebox. Pirana alarm (BMW approved) was an exception to this.lukeb wrote:i have a key which can turn the alram on or off. the box unit is under the bonnet near the fuse box.

Straight forward enough to remove once you've worked out what you're dealing with and assesed the general quality of the installation.
Last one (actually two on the same car!), I had to replace the dashboard loom because of the butchery that had been done to it.

i've come across dealer fitted alarms (205 gti) that had been wired in by just cutting, stripping then twisting the wires up...
is's usually faily obvous what's not part of the original loom. look out for any factory wires that have been cut and spliced into the clarm wiring as this is likely to be an immobiliser and will immobilise the car if you simply cut the alarm out. thracing the wiring though fully and removing all of it is the best plan and is likely to take less time as it'll probably go wrong if you cut corners.

Immobiliser SHOULD be plugged into the car loom at a white 2 pin socket with 2 green wires above the middle of the glovebox
