Four wheel drive turbo Jap stuff fairs well on the 1/4 mile strip. The way Imprezas, Pulsars, Skylines etc. launch off the line is very impressive. A mate of mine regularly gets low 13's in an only lightly tuned Impreza RA.
Four wheel drive not really my thing though.

1/4 mile is fun though! :D

that's the same as my best time! :?

hopefully a bit of practice and not being used to a shogun would help get into the 14's next time...? my three runs were 15.5, 16.2, 16.8 so ther's a lot of driver variables in there and i freely admit i was driving it like a tw4t as i'm not used to it, having only done about 3 miles in the last 4 months!

It only takes a slight difference in a gear change to ruin your times.
I just let the bugger rev and hold on.

Tesco 99 octain fuel also helps 8O

I've got a 'B reg' 2 door that i've got plans for - maybe it'll be there for the year after we've used it for it's "loner" status whilst taking a couple of other cars off the road for some well needed TLC winkeye

i think hitting the rev limiter a few times didn't help! also running on stale 95 octane cheapo fuel can't have done it any favours... ok so i'm struggling for excuses!

Try droppig your rear tyre pressure to around 19-20 psi it will give you more grip off the line, but remember to iflate them again befor you drive home.

LOL, i didn't go perfectly straight up the strip a few times because i was concentrating on my revs too much :)

But it helped me because i didn't smack into the rev limiter once 8)

I was launching at 1.5k rpm, releasing the clutch quickly and nailing the throttle, rev to 6k in 1 + 2, 5.5k in 3 and let 4 run till the line.

This way i got the power down well in first, but if i was to hard on the change from 1 to 2 then they's try to slip a bit.

Next time i'll play with my rear tyre pressures, not by much though, 4-6 psi. Another tip i picked up if you've got adjustable shocks is to have the rears set hard and the fronts soft. If these tips help i might be able to launch closer to 2k rpm next time.

Iâ┚¬Ã¢”ž¢ve been launching at 2k and revving to about 6200k in 1st second and 3rd, with normal tyre pressures wheel spin in second was bad and the tyres chirped going into 3rd.
Dropped the pressure to 19psi and only got a slight chirp in second and nothing changing to 3rd.

i was launching at 1.5k too. not a lot of problem with wheelspin as i had cremated my toyos and they were semi slick before i got there! more down to shifting too slowly and hitting the limiter i reckon.

i noticed when i got home that i had splattered rubber all up the rear quarter panels!!! :D
