Hey guys, this is something im looking to doing next year, providing the engine survives the punishment im going to give it this year.

I know you need some form of Management, but what else, most i could think was..

Megasquirt
325injectors
T28 turbo
oil feed / return pipes
Some form of manifold... any ideas on a fairly easy to source kind?

I have searched through some threads but they seem to tail off.. with no definateive checklist or outcomes / pictures guides, or experiences

Many thanks

Hi ,
not sure if 325i injectors will flow enough fuel(unsafe to run them over 85%) 535i injectors may be better. It also depends on what power your looking at I guess you'll be ' the 200bhp mark with that setup.(535i will be fine for this)

Manifold wise you can modify the 325td manifold, get hold of a 324td manifold from europe (which is bolt straight
on with t3 flange) or rotate your standard manifold and fabricate an adaptor to run the turbo. Other than this you can make your own or pay big bucks from the u.s or sweden.

thought the 2.5 squirters are boderline for a stock m20b25!!!!!
is that pinking i can hear...boom

least people run i think are 19s stock are 14.4,best budget for bigger as fueling under boost is gonna require better injectors than the 2.5 items.

what kinda power you aiming for firstly then build with a bit of foresight to suit.

You don't have to use BMW injectors, you can use many other Bosch injectors that are the same shape but has different flow rates. With Megasquirt you can go for 400cc for even bigger injectors without problems.
Plan coolant feed/return pipes for the turbo.
Consider an oil cooler if you don't have one.
Cold spark plugs.

just divert plumbing from tb to turbo if it is watercooled as not all are.

budget/power aim?

you can spec turbo, injectors etc from your target power etc-takes the guesswork out!

Do E36 325 (M50) injectors fit M20B25 ? Do they flow more fuel than stock M20 injectors.

Avoid watercooled turbos, they have much smaller oilways inside and will run a lot hotter and drier internally as a result.

std injectors are no good for FI, yellows are too small really too, fit some 30# units as a safe minimum, remember you must always have some spare capacity in all these things when speccing the conversion.

MS is compulsory, sure throw some Ԛ£Ã”šÃ‚£Ãƒ”šÃ‚£ at an FMU, only to replace it a few weeks later with Ms

E36 325 (M50) injectors flow about the same as stock M20 injectors (around 150cc).

Sorry, but I wouldn't even consider using a non watercooled turbo for the following reason:

I don't think there is a performance orianted turbo designed in the last 15 years that isn't watercooled.
Lower operating temperature for the turbo's core.
Cooler engine oil.
Less time to wait before shutting down the engine after a drive.

Avner, good points well made dude but, more oil flow results in lower core temp and increased turbo life.

Take a turbo to bits and splitthe bearing core, then compare water and oil/air coioled units

As for the volvo IC install, I'll take some more pix as I work thorugh the current install, but here's a taster.

Image

the oil cooler must be re-loacted but the rad stays in the stock position, the car pctured runs an Mtech2 kit so I chopped all the lower inner valance away, but you can do it as mine is , you will need an iS lip spoiler though as the IC pokes about 70mm lower than the stock valance does.

Just to make this clear, the car will be used for drifting *trampdrift*, and im not expecting any impressive power gains, just something abit more pokey for next year.

The diff will be welded.

Where does the intercooler sit with the rad still in place?

Does ant's pic not show enough?

The I/C is at the front and the rad is the engine side, go and have a look at your car and you'll see there is loads of room.

Haha Drax, you read my mind. I'm looking at turboing the next 2.5 lump I get. It's prob gonna be expensive though especially management side of things. Whats a rough baseline price for a tidy setup?

Okay cheers, Yeah I assumed that was what I was looking at in that form of layout but was concerned for airflow with that in mind
