rite folks im currently doin some work to my 325i se before i get it back on the road. i fitted a cd player the other day and it dosent work no power i assume, when i wired it i didnt know what the illumination wire did so its not wired to any thing is this the problem what does this wire do and is it needed on an after market cd player?
I also have no lighs at all in the dash not in the speedo or in the center were to i start to try and fix this ? what fuses/relays are responsible or will it be a dash out job to replace bulbs ?

sounds like you have blown a fuse.
check all your fuses in the engine bay
someone will come along shortly and tell you the exact fuse number. !
