After removing and welding up a broken drivers side door brake, broken on the fixing plate with threaded holes (inside the door). I have since found the mounting for the door brake bar is loose in the bodywork at the A post, (inside the door reveal), Can anyone help with a solution as this mounting component has no visible method of fixing, the car is a 1994 316 touring.

Needs repairing by welding, but you won't get behind it by taking the liner off.
Beware the sunroof plastic drainpipe is just inside.

Thanks for the advice,
I guess because of access or rather lack of it it gets welded from the outside, will this have sufficient strength?

Welded one four years ago on my daily driver 318 which I use every day for work.jairtime wrote:Thanks for the advice,

Door gets swung right open and shut about 30 times a day (tool boxes, etc.,stay in the car, which only has a driver's seat). Bounces back shut on my legs sometimes. It then gets kicked open again, hard. Strap mounting hasn't broken again yet!

Don't know what panel you mean, but the only things that need to come off are the door and the door seal.DaveD wrote:but do you have to take the panel off
You need to peel back the outer skin of metal a bit, IIRC.

Sorry for being thick, but can you clarify "peel back the outerskin of metal a bit, IIRC"
Is the metal being peeled back around the hole in the door reveal through which the mounting bracket is positioned, to reveal more of the mounting braket to weld to? Or is the metal being peeled back to allow access to the rear of the bracket welded from behind?

Jair, if you mean its broken inside the body itself not the door you may just have to live with it.
Mines a cab too and have also asked about this but from the answers i got there doesnt seem to be a solution,i dont like it but have learnt to sort of ignore it.
