Does anyone know what diameter brake pipes BMW use. Is it 3/16, or do they use a metric size.

Cheers

It's the same pipe, metric or imperial, 3/16" or 3.67mm IIRC.
It's just the ends that are different, and only slightly at that. Thread pitch is very similar, and the metric fitting diameter is slightly smaller than the imperial.
Bought 20 metric male ends yesterday, confirming twice at the factors that they were metric. Made the first pipe up and screwed it into the rear axle tee piece - immediately stripped the thread - muppet had given me imperial.

the nut size on on the fittings is also imperial - 7/16" IIRC.
it took me a while to work out why my metric spanners weren't working so well
