mine also does not have a zip, either stitched or not, neither does the replacement roof and window in my bedroom, but i got that from BAS.
mate i do not see why you cannot take the car to an upholsterers and have them stitch in a new window, did it with mine a year ago, the man hand stitched it in!!! (but no rain here so that could be a problem for you)
try BAS, they did an entire replacement roof fo my cabby (without zip
) for 350 squids, its sonneland material and top notch too!! (as recommeded by dave
)
i will get their number if you want.

Steve, even if your dealer said they all have zips then I wouldn't take it as the gospel, dealerships are tricky places to deal with
Class a baur as a convertible or not it still has a retractable roof with plastic rear screen does it not?
Bug4life, sorry to hear about this mate as I remember you looked long and hard for the right e30.

I can not imagine how you every argue that one with any credibility whatsoever.stevetigger wrote:Your car is NOT a convertible!Hyperion wrote:hmm , would like to see a picture of this zip that some of you guys have for the back window. My car doesnt have one.
I have owned several cars..well over 40, and some antiques were the earliest versions of convertibles in various forms, and I can tell theat this misr definately is a convertible.
A funnnt thing happened to me when I imported my 1990 M3 Cabrio into Canada. I handed over the previous registration papers and was told this must be a VW not a BMW. In Canada the only listed Cabrio is a VW. Hmmm I said,...perhaps we need to look outside of our neat little world structured world sometimes. In the true sense of the word a Cabrio is a convertible with roll-up windows as opposed to a roadster which has side curtains. Now here was a woman who's specialty was registeing cars and she did not know that simple analysis.
Cheers,
Jim

know this aint a car but my dads mate got a plastic window fitted to a cover on the back of his boat from a sail maker. looked like a factory job and charged him 50 quid made and STITCHED. (he did know the sail maker quite well though)
Hi all dont want any arguments but this is the way it is:
Zipped windows so you can see the zip but not the end were only available from around 91...you will even see some 90-91 E30 M3 cabs without a zipped window on the original roof
Most if not all replacements do not have a zip due to the fact everyone wants a cheap roof and will not pay for extras...in fact some replacements dont even have side brushes, metal reinforcements in correct place and even have less fabric on inside...in fact some are not made in the correct fabric to save money...BMW did not use mohair...the fabric is Sonnenland or A5...some UK trimmers dont know what it is either so no shame
Replacements can have a zip if provided from a dealer or from the old roof but costs
Replacement roofs and zipped windows are available from UK specialists and carclub members get a discount...see back page of magazine
To replace non zipped window is hassle and is expensive...if someone has had one done and done properly for Ԛ£100 that is cheap and get me the contact details I will give him loads to do.
Problem being the labour to remove the roof without damaging it, sew in a new window to correct grade and quality, and ensure it is waterproof...then refit is a lot of work and would normally cost more than the fitting charge for a new roof...so often we find it cheaper and more cost effective long term to replace the whole roof
Sorry if that is not what you want to hear...
Regards insurance we have replaced roofs for insurance companies due to vandalism etc but check what your excess is...wont cover wear and tear...no pun intended...good luck

Just been reading some things on e30.de and apparently you can get a repair kit from bmw with fitting instructions

I am happy to supply used windows that we have taken out of ripped roofs etc to zoners for Ԛ£10 each but as said before fair bit of work to do so if you can get the kit from BMW maybe a good idea if you dont want to buy a new roof
BUT
Some cheap roofs out ther may be a better option...but if you plan to keep the car make sure you get a good quality roof in correct fabric and get it fotted properly then use hindsight on the window and as long as you avoid the vandals ot thieves all should be well for a very long time
BMW carclub members get discounts on roofs (discount from advert in mag will save your membership in one hit)
