Where were you all day btw?! Must have just managed not to bump into you at all!

Can't wait for next time... If only I'd known you didn't really need a helmet in a cab, a bit earlier... Ah well, I'm sure my car's thanking me anyway! Gonna have to G-tech it later tho!

Cool, I recently invested in a D50 with the standard nikor 18-55mm lens. Hopefully santa will bring me a flash unit. Umming and errring about a new lens but not sure what I should go for..... any input gratefully received.

Olz, i clocked a guy with a nice bit of kit photographing the drifting and belatedly I thought it could have been you. Sorry I never got in touch as I did store your mobile number too :o:

Blatantarrogance, we're in exactly the same boat as you, D50 in silver with 18-55 lens, missus wants a powerful zoom though and a wide angle too for landscapes.

I'll stop spamming this thread now :o

Blantant & Lee... You both already have an 18-55mm which is great for day to day, but for motorsport, wildlife etc obviously you'll need a longer zoom.

I have a 28-300mm, but obviously you guys don't need one quite so wide (the range I mean, as you both already have a lens going upto 55mm). Nikon do a nice 70-300mm which is a fraction of the price of the 28-300mm. Sigma also do some nice equivilants, but the build quality isn't as good, and the focusing ring is quite abit noisier due to it being external, as opposed to the Nikon focusing ring being encased.

Hope this helps, you'll struggle to find a decent zoom beyond 300mm without going into the realms of Ԛ£1k+.

Just becareful for the cheaper rip-offs on ebay, that do not tell you about the VAT, and the import tax as they're unwilling to class them as "gifts".

Hope this helps a little, both.

SS.

Lee, your "misses" wants a wide angle lens for landscapes, the 18mm you already have is wider than your "point and shoot camera" (at 35mm). Now, I have a 12-24mm Nikkor, but any wider than that and you have to be careful of Barrel distortion, 12mm is just on the verge of going that way.

Barrel distortion is basically the photo distorting at the edges due to the "fish bowl affect", and it will lack quality for sure.

For the cost of what a 12-24mm is, I'd personally stick with your starting lens, starting at 18mm.

Again, hope this helps.

Just had a look through, and I'm annoyed that I didnt get everyones cars in :(

I mainly got the people whose boots were pointing towards the strip, as the sun wasn't in the right place to get a good shot for those that were parked facing the strip

Memory coming back now, you had problems with the car hesitating at 4,000rpm you were wearing light combat trousers, dark top, short/shaved hair?
