Hi. Just got my first e30 and I'm thinking of getting new rims. It's a 325i tourer. I've done my research on the net and I like to get your inputs on the right rims to put (15", 16"). I'd like to keep it to look as stock as possible. Alpina? BBS?
Thanks.

hey! today i put down a deposit on a 325i touring and the first thing im gonna do is take the 15" bbs sport wheels off my iS and put em on the tourer. it will make it look a bit tastier but not out of place. plus the touring has crappy 14" bottle top alloys on which really dont do the car justice imo.

15" or 16" are fine handling wise. The Standard fit BBS are good.33lop wrote: I've done my research on the net and I like to get your inputs on the right rims to put (15", 16"). I'd like to keep it to look as stock as possible. Alpina? BBS?Thanks.
Personally I have 15" Hartge rims that are lighter than the standard BBS and a lot easier to clean

They are rare but worth it if you can hunt a set down. budget a year for finding a decent set or getting them refurbed.

I know what your saying but 17" Alpina replicas (I have been told) are heavy. No experience myself but I felt the difference when I got my Hartge's on as opposed to BBS's, the car feels better, nimbler, I cant quite explain it, somethig to do with less unsprung weight etc. If you can find orininal Alpinas (hens teeth) go for it.tomtomiS wrote:thats along the same lines as what i want, my mates are ripping the piss cos im buying an estate so i dont want it to look ott by putting 17' on it. however, if some alpinas want to nestle under the arches im sure i would oblige
Oh and its a tourer not an estate
Sod your mates get what you want, its your car not theirs. My mates know better to crititisise my car. My dad still says I should buy something newer but he has lost more in depreciation than my car cost + running costs/upgrades over 4 years.

It's not a bloody estate. BMW don't do estates!tomtomiS wrote: my mates are ripping the piss cos im buying an estate
Estates are big load carriers. The load capacity of a touring (up to the load cover) is a lot less than that of a saloon!

Inform your friends that your E30 will still be on the road in as new condition long after any Ford, Vauxhall or French crap rolling off the production line today has been recycled into baked bean cans.33lop wrote: My friends too told me to get a newer car

Well it doesnt fit the dictionary definitionFBF wrote:how can you say its not an estate?... im baffled, is this an example of BMW snobbery? it looks like an estate to me does laden weight have any relevance?
http://dictionary.cambridge.org/define. ... &dict=CALD
estate (car) UK noun [C] (US station wagon)
a car with a lot of space behind the back seat and an extra door at the back for loading large items
as said previously the tourer has a smaller boot than the saloon and have you ever tried to fit anything large in a tourer, not possible due to the location of the lights

id say it fits the dictionary discription perfectly, lots of space behind the back seat, doesnt say more space than the saloon and it does have an extra door at the back for loading, and really its only a couple of seats away from being a vanCotty180 wrote:Well it doesnt fit the dictionary definitionFBF wrote:how can you say its not an estate?... im baffled, is this an example of BMW snobbery? it looks like an estate to me does laden weight have any relevance?

i guess you have to define 'a lot of space'. i dont think you'd be able to convince anyone that its not an estate.. hell why do they even call it a touring.. thats even more odd. considering the original bmw tourings of the 40's dont resemble these at all

Regardless whether you believe it is or isnt an estate car, it called a touring or tourer. That was the name given to it by BMW. If you have a problem with that I suggest you take it up with BMW
