Doesn't sound right to me. Does it rev higher than that in other gears or in neutral? It should rev up to at least 6k rpm I reckon, and doing a 100mph should not be beyond the bounds of possibility......

75mph even from an old 1.6 seems low.jambaps wrote:does any one know the top speed of a standard e30 316 with the m10 engine

My olden used to show 110, if your limiter is coming on at 4500rpm then put a proper rotor arm in.

im sure my a reg 316 did 118 mph and would rev to 6000 ish. it wasnt bad really, had a euro car parts performance back box and i took the hot air feed and made it suck air from under front bumper. oh and it had a webercarb on, not sure what size, was a standard replacement item with manual choke. super unleaded too helps!
i loved mine as it used to get ragged senseless during my boy racer days and the the car only let me down once when i broke one of the ht leads. was so much more reliable than the ren 5 gtt phase 2 i bought after!

it should rev cleanly and reasonablly quick(ish) to hit rev limiter, dont wanna state the obvious but what state are ur filters and plugs in? and also new leads and dizzy cap might help change its tune. i found that bmw spark plugs worked better than whatever was in before i changed em.

You got a problem dude 316's should be good to drive and go ok( but then again so should 325's) rememeber this was a sports saloon 20 years ago.
