I would just like to share with you all a little bit of information about the above.

We had our PAS pump give up last week and after much deliberation and obtaining new and second hand prices - we decided to open it up and have a look inside.

We are so glad we did. After a thorough clean in the dip tank the pump came up like new. We removed all the seals (most were heavily worn or crushed, got them all copied and built the pump back up.

Total cost in parts Ԛ£12.50, couple of hours labour + a little bit of electric and cleaning products and time and a brand new fully functioning better than ever and SILENT power steering pump !!!

Just thought i'd share this fairly boring but cost effective event with you all.

Regards

Darren

We did the same on a set of shocks on an 850i, replacement are about 750quid each, we pulled em apart and fixed the seals for a tenner :D

Even saw a PBMW mag claiming this was impossible (but was an E38 shock with EDC which is same unit) they said not fixable, we prooved otherwise!! if its already broke you cannot break it anymore!!

We are more than happy to rebuild pumps for people if they are interested. The seals are a little expensive for what they are but the pumps run at 110 bar !! and the seals have to cope with PAS fluid which is not nice to rubber.

MrLee - good effort. love your phrase 'if its already broke you cannot break it anymore' our sentiments exactly.
