Randomdave has an M3 3.25? diff fitted and from what ive felt of that, even that could do with being a bit higher!

ello again m8. the 3.64 diff is what i had originally. is way low. 125 topend and constantly searching for 6th when cruising. i've got a 3.46 lsd in it now and is still too low. better than before tho. i'm going 6 speed now and the gearing should be perfect then. we'll get on it when i get back m8. all else fails we'll use a 525e one. got a few kickin about we can do some kinda deal with some is bits init. as long as the auto is higher than mine was with a 320 diff all should be cool. remember mine for that short time it was in there. pull away in 4th and hit limiter in 5th in about 20 seconds. not very practical and very un economical.

fritz has moved up the road a bit james to a quality set up nr greenham. go out of wellington, up the a38 towards m5 j27 etc.go up the top of beam bridge hill where it levels out and take a right. signposted greenham / holcombe rogus. follow that road for about a mile. go past the industrial estate type thing on the left and it's the next set of buildings on the left. theres a coach place there and just drive over the weighbridge (fun in the rain) and on the left. u'll spy all the bm's. i'll be working there as soon as i'm back as an e30 specialist/ general hooligan so should see you there.as you say rolling road should be fun. theres a 700 bhp v8 twinsupercharged 635 there atm so it will be worth it just to hear that!!! see ya all soon winkeye

Oh well good experience i spose!

Wiring is totally different on pre facelift, going to try and tackle it tomorrow while Chris does the manifold-should be an interesting day :)

I know James,im not really one to sit back and watch someone else work, rather get in their and do it myself!

Only job i cant really do myself is the manifold/exhaust and thats only cause i cant weld, otherwise id do that aswell!
Anyway for the price of a smoke ill be getting the best quality TIG welding, cant knock that winkeye

Strange!

It is from experience. The car can only do 125 flat out but...... Ԛ¬Who needs to go more than that now the police have gone crazy. I can cruise at 80 on about 4k.......No no worries there.

Took on an Impreza the other day, Was easy really!

Steve,i hear what your saying but.....

Why settle on 125mph flat out when 135/140+ can be achieved simply by picking a different ratio diff?
Regardless of wether you ever use it!

Why settle on 6.8 seconds 0-60 when you can have a six second 0-60 time 8O

Update!

Spent last weekend getting the manifolds welded up,came out pretty good in the end, although credit for this should go to my mate Chris!
Also made a start on the prop but still got work to do on that.

This week ive fitted battery in boot(courtesy of bobgil67) which has now freed up the front battery tray to mount the relays and ECU,done that today.

Ian332isport kindly worked out the wiring to the C101,big up yourself Ian.
After cocking up the first attempt i pulled it apart and re did it and hey presto we have engine power winkeye
Tried to get it started today but it doesnt seem to want to fire.
Spoke with Ian about this and it looks like it maybe something to do with the alarm as that doesnt seem to want to work anymore
Go0t a couple of tests to do on it tomorrow, and hopefully ill get it fired up 8O

Besides not starting, ive had a couple of problems.
On the M50 power steering pump there is 3 pipe feeds,so i traced the one i didnt need and used a bolt to block this off-well when cranking it over today i saw a leak underneath, turns out i forgot to put a copper washer on this block off bolt resulting in PAS fluid pissing out everywhere, but at least its an easy fix!

Then this afternoon-DISASTER
Working away on the wiring and i heard a crash, looked to the back of the car and saw my bonnet that i had proped against the wall, face down on the floor
Picked it up and FOOK NO-dirty great crease along the front corner and more scratches than a DJs record collection.
To say i am p1ssed off is a major under statement!
So now i need a lachs Silver bonnet, gutted!

Anyway hopefully next time i post an update i can include a video clip of it running, fingers crossed :)

If it makes you feel any better I left my airbox on top of the engine last week, about 5 minutes before I refitted it the wind got up and BANG! Nice dented bonnet

Soon managed to find a straight replacment though :D

Right fellas,im getting mega p1ssed off with this car-everything seemed to be going well till yesterday when the fooking bonnet blew over

Now im having major problems getting M50 to start up!!!!!

Connected the C101 wires as Ian instructed and it wont start.
Liased with Ian via PM and did a few tests he told me about.
Turns out it wasnt firing or no fuel pump,so................
did some more of Ians tests and then..........

while doing the test i noticed that the 3 relays had no power, nothing!
PMed Ian again and he has told me that the wires going to the Red lead(Left of Orange relay) in the following pic looks wrong.
Image
Image

I unbolted the offending wire and put a 12 volt direct from the battery to the Red instead and bingo, now when i turn the ignition on i can hear the relays click proving they work.
Fuel is now going to the engine, but still no spark?

Can someone(Danthe,Ian,Brianmoore?)tell me where to connect the lead i unbolted to and what im meant to do/bolt to the red lead?(does that make sense?)

Heres another pic, just to re explain-the lead that is bolted to the Red at the side of the Orange relay, what do I do?
The problem lead once slit open contains 2 wires,1 Orange/Brown and 1 Brown.

Help would really be appreciated here guys, getting a bit fed up with it now, might even throw the towel in :(

Nice one Dan,Ian has just told me the same thing :D

Got to be honest, once i opened it up and saw the wire colours,i thought it was earth,so i did a temp 12v to the Reds and held the loose one to earth at strut top and turned the key, didnt fire!
but....
I am going to try it again in the morning,do it more secure this time.

Update!

Went out this morning, all confident that today it would be running....but alas, the fooking thing still wont start :x

Connect the Brown/Orange and Brown to earth, put the 2 Reds direct to 12v and gave it a go.....still no spark!
When i turn the ignition on,i can hear the White relay click on but not the orange?
Also sounds like click coming from the AFM?

I have put a 12v from direct to the Green/Violet wire(fuel pump)which is resulting in petrol being fed, took the plug out and no spark.

Help :(

If so how do i get round it?

One more thing, does it matter where in the exhaust the lambda sensor goes,ie front/middle or back?
Hi Eko
I'm about at the same stage as you in my M50 fit although I've managed to get mine to fire & run (PLEASE don't ask me how, because I've honestly no idea  Pure luck I guess, but I could take some pics of my install if it'll help you out).
Regarding the above quote from an earlier post, do you know if using the lamda sensors is necessary?
Mine will sit at idle & rev up when I hit the throttle (bloody loud with just the open headers) so that seems OK.
I've swapped the whole loom across from the donor car (95' E34 manual) but I've got no spare wires / plugs in the engine loom that lambda's could plug into 8O .

Any ideas?

Iain, the Lambda sensor on mine is plugged in and secured next to the sump on the passenger side!
I fitted my lambda at the top of the front manifold, dont know if its 100% needed but id assume it is otherwise Danthe or Ian332i would of mentioned something to me im sure?

Think some of the wiring issues ive had/having is cause mine is a pre facelift model so is different C101 wiring to later more popular conversions.

Dont know what to do next with mine  Been out doing the exhaust again today, just the backbox fitting left tomorrow and thatll be done/bleed brakes and clutch and i could technically take it down the road for a trial-IF IT WOULD START

Cheers m8 :thumb:
I'll have to have another, closer look at the wiring loom tomorrow to see if any plugs are hidden away somewhere or have been chopped off.
I'll also take some pics for you. You never know, it might help pinpoint something.
Mine's an 89' cab so it's pre-facelift body with (I think) the later wiring.
What model/year is yours & do you have any wiring diagrams for it?
