im buying a hardtop soon im not sure if the owner has the key to fit it to the car can it be put on the car with out it and how?

also where could i get a key and how much if the owner doesnt have one

A key they are locked into place with a spanner not sure of the size

is it a special key or jus like a normal nut key?

also how much did it cost you to get you vinyl removed and the hardtop resrayed the one im getting is a original bmw one

is it a good idea to take the softtop out now? have you left yours in still

its a special key to attach the hardtop to the car. (It looks like a claw) Are you getting the pins with the hardtop aswel? Try the stealers for the key, im sure it shouldnt cost that much.

Depending on the condition of the vinyl keep it original as it will hold its value!!

IIRC isn't it a 13mm ring spanner to turn-fit the pins into the carbody?

the claw is needed if you wish to adjust the pins up or down in the hardtop?

it's 6 months since I've seen mine so apologies if I'm wrong

Correct, but you will need to but the pins in first and lock them and then put the hardtop on using the Claw.

the pins will probably already be in the hardtop - make sure they are DJ_B4L, as BMW may charge you a fair bit for them; if they are missing you could negotiate the price down

hi all i jus picked up the hardtop just got back it included the pins but didnt come with the claw tool

i used a spanner to lock it need to get this claw tool any one have one spare?#

so a 13mm spanner locks and unlock and the claw tool adjusts it is this eight?

yup thats right the spanner will lock unlock
and the claw will adjust to make it sit perfect on your car.

itll take you a while, but when its perfect there wont be any creaks squeaks etc, and should be completely water tight from the front.

if the hardtop is going on permanantly for the winter then id take he sof top off and leave it open so the window doesnt creased with it being folded all winter
