on the 525 e bottom end . i will be putting on to my 325 engine
but the car is an auto
does this mean that i have to replace the flywheel . with another . say the 325i fly wheel or the 325i flywheel .
just woundering what differences there will be for the conversion .?

Gussage, get onto Ebay as there's a suitable 525e shitter - Ebay 190033702550. You could even drive it about for a bit and when you break it you'll sell a few bits from the rest of the car. Just swap all your 325i bits - complete head and manifolds, front pulley, flywheel and clutch and sump. It's be a very good idea to whack a new set of bearing shells and bit end bolts in though. Don't be tempted to reuse the original rod bolts as they're stretch bolts to be used once only.
Oh - and you'll need a spigot bearing to go into the back of the Eta crank. They're about Ԛ£6 from BMW and just drive in with a socket and hammer.

hey andy
i already bought that 525e you saw before , the one you think you owned.
says its the cam thats worn and the mechanics said new head gasket . proberly because the head comes off to do the cam.
75 quid.
cool . now youve given me a shoping list .
do you recon rings are worth doing . and wats all this about . lower compression pistons from early 325i and is it worth doing much else?

Leave the 525e pistons in there - you'll have a 9.4:1 compression which is more than enough. I did all the sums, woprked out the CR and did the conversion and it works. I wouldn't bother with new rings to be honest if your budget doesn't quite stretch. If it doesn't burn oil and the compressions are okay, just whip the pistons out and go over the bores with a glazebuster.
325i pistons will give a slightly higher CR but you're into stripping the engine, shaving the block, shortening the pistons skirts (10mm needs to come off them) plus the expense of a vernier pulley to reset the cam timing because the cam and crank are now 60 thou closer together (because you shaved 60 thou off the block).
Using 525e pistons avoids all of this.
At the very least replace the big end shells and bolts and put a new relief valve spring in the oil pump.

so new oil pump , shrick cam , the schrick valve springs, hone the bores , spigot bearing, new con rod bolts.
new bearings for the rods , head gasket , head bolts, timimg belt and tentioner ,new valve stem seals.and im going to do clutch, water pump and the water hose at the back of the head and sump gasket.
any more worth doing
is there any more bearings that can be done also . can the ones on the little ends be done or any other things worth a go at
