as much as there's gonna be a technology issue to resolve... instead of shoving your foot on the accelerator to release it, take your foot off the accelerator, dip the clutch and re-gauge (so to speak) i find that works without being thrown forward!

used to work for a bmw dealer and u would be surprised at how many e46's had stiff pedals, not really sure how to cure it, but its not an isolated case. makes parking a bit of an experience if u not quick on the brakes!

it was a case of like it or lump it, i never heard any of the techies talking about fixing them, i suppose it could be narrowed down to stiff linkage or something to do with the microswitch thingy as the e46's are drive by wire if im right

I had that with my E46 323. I took my car in for a service at BMW and the recommended to fit a new accelerator cabel, but I was being tight and said no, they fitted it anyway and didn't charge me for labour and it cured the problem, smooth as silk

Fit it yourself, it's something like Ԛ£10 for the part. I was going to do that, but they fitted it for free

If it is stiff all the way through its travel then yeah its a cable, if it is just stiff to begin pushing it down then becomes normal for the rest of its travel, then its a throttle body.
Replaced loads of both at work. (Vines BMW Redhill)

how much is leaking?
maybe she's been over filled and is "spitting" some out?
my oil light tends to go out on ignition start.. and then come back on after a minute, and stays on for a further minute or so.
But she doesn't need oil.....
as for parking sensors... the previous owner bust them and i've never needed them, so they can stay broke! lol

It's the throttle body. What happens is the butterfly jams inside and this happned on my Compact last week. Had to turn off the engine, give the pedal a good boot and it freed. The only cure is to take the throttle body off and smooth off the edges of the butterfly with 600 grit wet and dry. If the throttle works okay once freed off, it won't be a cable.

Yeah, if it was me, i'd try what andy said first before replacing, should sort it.
Very common for the throttles to do this on M43's, diagnosed one today infact! Only four 10mm bolts to undo once youve removed the plastic cover+ cable. Give it a go!
