A while back I posted that my car was making a weird clicking noise from the rear of my car...

Speaking to a mechanic today, he recons it could be the CV joint... I didn't know I had CV joints on the back of my car... is this true? If so, is this likely to make the noise, and how easy (and expensive) are they to replace?

Cheers,

Carl

it could be the wheel bolts fouling on the brake shoes..............

I think the rears could be classed as a CV joint, but not in the same sense as on a FWD car. i think that they are just a posh Uni-Joint....

There are two CV joints on each of your rear driveshafts, but I've never seen a dud one yet. Can't really see one clicking like they do an front wheel drive rubbish, as they don't operate at the same sort of angles.
Having said that, I don't know of anything that would be described as "clicking" at the back of an E30.
Not a rear damper top mount or exhaust on the rear crossmember is it?
IS the frequency of the clicking directly speed related?

I think my top mounts may need doing, as every time i go over any bunp, there a knocking noise from behind me...

But this noise is definitely speed related; i.e, pulling away in first gear slowly, there is a click for every revolution of the wheel, if i accelerate, the noise gets faster, and louder if i really put my foot down...

It also makes a different noise when i take my foot off the accelerator, and let it over-run the engine, it still makes a clicking noise, but just a different clicking noise
