phoned up the insurers today to see if it is possible for me to insure a 325i with them at 19, despite them dictating a 25 years lower limit on that engine size.

basically, they won't let me change the engine as they start to piss their pants about brakes, suspension etc. BUT because of my clean record, advanced drivers license, pass plus, 2yrs NCB etc he said there is a chane of some leniency with various points...such as engine size. Which means if the underwriters look favourably upon me as a case, i may be able to insure a 325i at 19 with Norwich Union. Woo hoo!!

quick question: was there ever a 'spec' on 325i cabs that dictated LSD, close ration gearbox etc. like a tin top 'sport' but on a cab. Or is that just a Motorsport. Don't worry I know what a Motorsport is (been on here long enough to know), but for insurance purposes I was wondering if there's anything between a standard 325i cab and a Motorsport?

cheers

i insured mine on my 20th birthday, could have insured it at 19 but thought i would wait a few weeks so it would be a couple hundred quid less at 20

Motorsport Edition cabs did not necessarily come with LSD - it was an option. Typical of BMW to try and suck out as much money as possible - as far as I know, LSD was standard only on the 325i Sports.

william, why dont u convert your 318 to a 325i, i prefer to do this because i love my car, and im so used to it being a 318, so when i drop the 325 lump in, its going to be so worth it, hopefully insurance will be cheaper than a proper 325i, thats what people have said, not sure if its true tho :bmw:

fastcarz thanks, yeah i wanted to do that but i also want to stay with Norwich Union as they are way ahead of anyone else price wise. They wont let anyone change the engine on any car, they are generally against mods, the thought being that you might not upgrade your suspension and brakes etc sufficiently if at all.

it might work out cheaper with some insurance companies but with NU its an impossibility.

Bharat - thanks for the link, i guess then i will just have to try and find a really specced up 325i and maybe even fit the g'box and lsd to make it a bit more 'sport' myself.
