i think my clutch is on its way out as when my boost kicks in i can hear a rattle sound (springs on drive plate)?? and it seems like the clutch is slipping! shall i stick to a standard clutch is the question? or shall i try for performance?

standard clutch is usually ok but put the best you can in i suppose(try an oe sachs)
your clutch has probably had a long life before the turbo fitting>>>>>>>

Just make sure that it is not actually pinking, do they revs rise and you don't increase in speed?

I'm pretty sure it won't be pinking, but it was fairly warm today.

Unless your clutch was dodgy to start I doubt it's the issue really, mine has held up with over 21psi being rammed through it and what I thought was it slipping turned out to actually be my wheels spinning up!!

I thought Ant was lying but the 100m smoke trail behind me convinced me the clutch was fine :D

Mine stocky stock and I gave it some serious abuse with the T3 on, 0-60's and 1/4 miles etc, no issues so far.

It's the rattling you mention that makes me think you're in need of some more tuning, with your high comp lump it's vital you get the EGT's as low as poss to avoid any DET in the higher boost/revs areas.

Best way I can describe it is " shaking a empty can of paint full of marbles "

Hmm, interesting fozzy, im only assuming its the clutch as it never done it until today. ive had the car 2yrs now and the clutch was in there when i got it. Can you tell me what keeping the EGT's as low as poss means pls dude! .. The only way i can explain it is that i can feel the boost winding up (no rattle) and then when the boost kicks in from about 2.5k rpm i get a little continuos rattle like a few nails in a small coke size can?? it was then that i noticed that the engine sounded like it was revving a bit more and not enough speed to match it. thats why i came up with the idea that it could be the little springs on the drive plate? my psi is only at 7.5 and it hasnt done it till today, its been roughly bought a month since the turbo install.. Maybe Ant is due a visit for some more tweaking!

Blingsta, I'm gonna send you a new map file, drop that in the ECU and try again, report back on the "rattling" after testing.

change only the ignition table, import the file I emailed as per the instructions 8) dont forget, SAVE the file afterwards :thumb:

A heads up for those not clued, this car came to be turboed with 200 miles on a rebuild so was mapped up to 4.5K under load, the fuelling/timing above is based on a similar install from previous. now the car has covered 1K and the rev limits have been raised accordingly.

AS before Blingsta, without knowing the actual spec and CR of your engine ( 2.7 btw folks ) the tuning is critical.

If it turns out to be your clutch a Sachs 618 pressure plate on stock clutch assembly should hold nicely. I would have gone this route had I not already ordered a 5puck.

That info helps explain whats up then, the stock actuator's do work but I found with mine that it wasn't stying shut while spooling, which gives a supercharger like effect and so the boost rises slowly to the limit, when you add in the bleed valve it prevents the actuator seeing boost until the pressure limit is reached and then opens the actuator. What I found was once the bleed valve was fitted I had instant boost and the spool was harder and faster! ( THE WAY WE LIKE IT! )

What this does to your map is take the green dot ( the one on the live map screen ) to new areas in the map which havent been mapped before, low revs/high boost....hence the det.

It's all part of the process so don't worry, I'm 110% Ant can get you back online and out of the det, just more playing time needed!

Or just turn it down, either way don't wind anymore on till your safe, save the cost for a HG, Bolts etc.

And your welcome :thumb:

spoke to Mike @ ferriday today, blingsta's decomp plate is done and should be on its way tomorrow, bolts from Fozz en route too, 20 psi by Monday

TBH given the swept 10.2:1 CR I'm amazed she took 7.5 Psi for a month, there was always a question mark on the bottom end spec, but all cleared up now , I've seen the pix :D

A minor hiccup, almost goes with the territory, although ( tempting fate... ) mines done almost 2 years @ 7 psi without needing anything other than regular servicing, that said though , she's 8.8:1 CR stock as a rock( for now  )

ha ha ha... shall i try that now then Fozz? its all good , although it didnt last very long, the power i got from only 7.5psi was amazing... ive been driving my wifes 325 all day today and i was swearing coz it feels like its not moving!!.. So Ant how comes that your stock is 8.8.1 and mine was higher??? i thought that the Eta bottom end and the 325 head i used was a mismatch and dropped compression automatically?? :x

it is a kinda mismatch, which might have cause some of your det problems as the burn point etc changes

but the m20b27 is a high compression lump so yeah 325i head drops it, but its still higher than a standard m20b25!!
