i know some people has done this but ive just seen a car for sale in my area, its a 1991 525i, im pritty sure its a 24v cos its a 91, dont know milage but its got fsh, but the head gasket has gone, only wants Ԛ£250, do you think if i puut it in my e30 its going to cause loads of problems if i get the head gasket done?, and also, what diff and gearbox do i use to put the 525i engine in, and what about the wireing, what happens with that, does it all plugg in? is there any problems with doing this conversion, cheers!

M50 with blown headgasket ?????

almost unheard of dude, plenty of e34 engines about in the breakers, I think I'd walk away on this one TBH.

as for the wiring, you'll need the engine bay loom and ECU, you can patch the loom in at the C101 connector on the bulkhead, Ian or Brian Moooooooooore may be able to assist with pinouts etc.

keep us posted, its worth the effort

ant, i just seen it in the paper this morning, ive been looking for a cheap 325 or 525 for about 2 weeks, most of the ones ive seen has been high milage dogs, it says in the ad for the 525, head gasket worn, (maybe he doesnt know whats wrong), is it unusual for the m50 to blow the head gasket? is the m50 more reliable than the m20? ill ring the guy now and post the details after! cheers!

I see about one a month with "shagged headgasket", 99% of the time it turns out to be a shagged pastic waterpump impellor  common as muck on these

if it overheats but theres no mayo, the oil level is ok and nice and black etc etc it may be worth the risk, it will need to very very cheap though !

well ive just got off the phone to the guy, i asked him what colour is the engine and he said its not black, its silver so i imagine its a m20 not a m50, i think ill give it a miss, there is a 92 e30 with a 2.7, have a look in he autotrader, type in 2.7 in the search field, i might buy it for the engine but its at Ԛ£1500, cheers guys!
