I was under the impression that they were installed
at the factory not after the fact.

this subject has been brought up before, (suprised no one else has posted about it being a repost as usual) but the general consensus was that all ///M badges were dealer fit either as standard or at customer request depending on the dealer, i don't think any came with it from the factory as far as i'm aware

Dealer fitment only. Usual placement was on the left of the boot lid, or right of the bootlid if the car was ordered with the model insignia removed. I've seen some where the dealer has stuck the M badge just before the 325i badge though.

Wherever it's stuck it's wrongness IMHO.

I don't actually have a problem with it, although it can look a bit tacky on some cars.

I searched, repost or not, noone has any hard facts to answer this?
Btw, I'm not planning on putting m badges on my car, I'm just trying to settle an argument.

i think it does look tacky!
as above the M insignia should only be on genunie M cars!

but here are the part numbers if needed:

Front : 72 60 1 933 569 : Ԛ£20.50 inc VAT
Rear: 51 14 1 917 739 : Ԛ£20.50 inc VAT

M for mtechnic or m-power ???? BMW created this confusion themselves. IMHO as long as you don't put //M3 or //M5 on your car to suggest M-power then i can't see the problem in enhancing BMW's decision to represent the mtechnic/motorsport upgrades by utilising the M badge themselves.
My motorsport has the //M logo as standard on the steering wheel and some other parts. Dosen't make it an M power though as i agree.

//M doesnt mean M3 etc, it means Motorsport, so if you have a M-Tech spec'd car then its ok imo

Thats the point people get confused on. My Sport, your MotorSport and Chris' Sport are all Mtech cars and so the ///M badge isnt out of place, an //M3 badge would be.

There is also the little Mtechnic sticker found on the front pods and boot spoiler of the Mtech kit.

What Jim said.

My sport does have the grill badge in addition to the factory fit kit but this was fitted at the dealer hence the car is original in my view. Its not like you can pass it off as an M3 just by swapping the badge ffs.

My car has one on the front but i think thats ok as its and IS that came from factory with the tec2 kit and many sport goodies, ie steering wheel, 15" bbs etc etc. Only prob is people then ask "is that an m3?" and im like no, does that look like an m3 badge? Grrrrrrr.

I was considering putting the ///M badges on my 325 with the factory fitted MTech 1 kit on. Would this be frowned upon then?

mmmmmmmmm M badge on a sport seems ok to me as said before ,the logos are on the wheel & body-kit parts. Even from a distance you can tell an M3 from any other E30 if you know what an M3 is, but putting an M3 badge (not an M badge) is wrong.

ps. my M-Tec 2 has an M badge on left side of the boot, done previous owers or dealer I don't know

Weird thing about my car is it has everything for the sport except the interior meaning I don't have the 3-spoke wheel with the logo on or the seats (not sure what they are in the sport). Apparently the buyer had the car built up to the sport spec but not the interior to keep the insurance down as it wouldn't be a sport.

I am after a list of what it need to make it up to a sport so I know what to get to complete it but thats for another time.
