why do you want to spend that much?
I've had a Laserline 213 fitted to one of my cars recently - seems ok; I went for that as it is very recent - Thatcham approval was in May this year, so it will be a long time before the insurance companies stop recognising it.

depends what you want an Alarm for; it won't stop anyone stealing your car.

i dont neccessarilly want to spend that much, i just have that much floating about. not too hot on the price of them so thought Ԛ£800 would easily be enough. thanks for the suggestions though.

right now?
Shoreham Airport
ps the Laserline (about 330 GBP fitted) can allegedly do electric windows as well, and if the fob goes tits-up, there is a small no-battery key which you can use once in the car to deactivate the system - that was important to me 'cos my previous Sigma just decided not to work at all one day, stranding us.
The Sigma was good in one way - it took the Security expert who came out to rescue us nearly 2 hours to get the car running, and he had my keys!

useful to know, thanks.
i had been looking at the usual cliffords but i've read on some places that they're not as good as people say they are.
i only asked whereabouts you were because i'm in west sussex too, where did you have your alarm fitted or did they come to you?

ah right
cos we were stranded I used someone I'd bought a head-unit from a few years back, but they weren't great - well that's not fair - the manager was very poor, and the bloke who came out was very good.
Huets in Worthing, and I think it was Chris Huet who lacked customer focus
but he works out of the Hove branch - the Worthing branch have been good, so go there.
Where do you live near?

I know Huets so I'll try them. They're a little pricey on their audio if I remember correctly.
I'm a couple of miles south of Burgess Hill.

there isn't anything just south of Burgess Hill
there's some good country roads round there - I used to play 5-a-side at the BH sports hall, and I was living on the coast, so on the way up I used to cut through Blackstone, Sayers Common etc - fun

Clifford are excellent alarms, but they need to be installed by someone who knows what they are doing. They are less tolerant of poor fitting than most, but this does not make them a bad alarm.e30Pats wrote:I know but from what I've heard they're not the best.e30bemer wrote:for that amount u an get a top of the range clifford!
I recently had a Clifford G5 fitted to my car and it's been superb. My previous Clifford was in the car since 1996 and never missed a beat. I only really replaced it because I wanted a newer alarm with a few more features.
From what I've heard, I would think twice before using Huet's for an alarm install. Not a pretty site under the dash when they have finished by all accounts

Yeah thats what I heard, so how can you tell if you're going to get a decent fitter? Where did you get yours done as I see you're in West Sussex too.

the guy who fitted my alarm in Kent put a screw through a live wire, when I removed the dash it nearly set light to the loom. I had an independant guy come to check the problem and he traced it to the alarm fitment. He rang the alarm company and they were taking it up with the installers.

DemonDaz that fills me with confidence. I'm going to be looking right over the guy's shoulder when I get mine done.

Finding a decent installer is very hard these days. I was lucky and stumbled across a guy who used to work for Directed Electronics (who own Clifford). He helped design the G5 range of alarms and also trianed installers on how to fit them. He's actually changed jobs now, and runs a Hotel, but still does alarm work at weekends.e30Pats wrote:Yeah thats what I heard, so how can you tell if you're going to get a decent fitter? He's actually based in Eastbourne, but did come to me (at work) in Horsham to fit the alarm. I'm not sure if he does house calls all the time though. I'm not very far from you at all, and did my shopping in Burgess Hill Tesco just this morning
I watched him fit my alarm and helped in places. If you look under my dash, you can't see any of the alarm. It's all hidden and very tidy.

Is there any way of seeing if he will be able to fit one for me?
I've been looking at sites that sell the alarms and fitting at home is included in the price, where do the fitters come from and are they to be trusted to do a decent job?

Best way to find a good fitter is by recommendation. Never really found a good one here, the guys at work have had hastle with installers they have used.
I think a good alarm installer is harder to find than an honest and good plumber.
