Hi guys, i need a little help.

I recently rolled my lovely 325iSE on the kent road rally, the car has been out side the my house for a few weeks now, and the battery went dead, so we changed the battery, now we have a fully charged battery.
All the electrics work and the car sounds like she really does wont to start, but wont, when I remove the lead from the dis cap and turn the key it only gives of one spark, and thats it, and we have a ticking sound coming from the iginition key area, it sounds like the imoblizer, has the 325i se got an imoblizer fitted, and if so how can I over come the problem?? or is it somthing to do with the on board computer

Cheers Robert

Most cars have a fuel cut off which activates when in a collison. It could be this which is cutting the fuel meaning it wont start.
I dont know if these cars have them though but it could be what it is.

Adam, no the car started on several occiasions after the accident.

I have been looking through the owners manual, it referes to a code on the on board computer, problem beiging we do not appear to have the orig code, does that sound right ??

Sounds real stupid, but tighten up the battery terminals real good! When the battery on mine was changed and the terminals not tightened sufficiently it made a ticking noise. Probably completely unrelated tho... :?

Yeah the computer is linked to the imobilizer and if you input/set a code it will not allow for the car to be started until the correct code is entered, but seeing as you disconeted the battery it "forgets" the code and you can normally start the car fine.

umm well thats my problem, it just wont start, and you can cleary hear a ticking noise coming from the ingition key area, so im sure it is to do with the imoblizer, is there an mechanics code ?

The standard imobilizer cuts off power to the + terminal of the coil. Check for 12V there, with the ignition on, and then with the starter engadged as well, but I doubt if this in anything to do with your problem.
if lack of spark is your problem, then usual cause is the crank position sensor by toothed wheel, right front of engine.

Hi

Have u checked the fuel pump is working under your rear seats? Take one of the fuel lines off in the engine and turn the key. If no fuel is there then that will be the problem.

OBC does not have a set code. Every time you want to use the CODE function you enter a random number to set the immobilizer, and then use the same number to unset it. It makes no difference if you use the same number the next time, or a completely different one.

are you getting are spark at the plugs then?

if your getting and spark but no fuel try bridging the fuel pump relay so its on all the time then crank engine and it should fire up.

if it does then the problem lies in the wiring from the ignition switched 12v
to the fuel pump relay. ie when you crank its not kicking in the relay.
