Right,

im in the process of removing a complete obc set up from one of my tourings (probably to go in the iX) but ive come across this problem, the car wont now start so i messed about with what id removed and found that the black box (thats above the main engine ecu) when unplugged stops the car from starting, how can i get around this?

Thanks in advance

Tom

obc horn? didnt know there was such a thing!

There is a horn mounted there but i dont think the wires go to that, they seem to double back towards the engine?????

Yep - they come back in through the bulkhead, underneath the fuse-box.

Yes, i got that Chris, i removed the loom from the unit back so have got it all out behind the instrument cluster etc and behind the glovebox. The loom comes out as you say under the fusebox but its the other end im having problems with!

P.S i posted that chq today, sorry its late mate!

Tom,

Sorry - quite right, I've re-read now.

In that case, it is definitely for the OBC horn. If you have one, it will be mounted behind a (by now corroded) metal plate 'box', bolted to the flat section aft of the wheel-arch.

No worries about the cheque - thanks for letting me know.

Nice one Chris, that makes sense as all you describe is there, i just couldnt see properly where the wires went due to that "corroded" plate you mention!

Cheers Buddy

Find the loom that runs across the top of the glovebox. You will find a white two pin socket with two green wires coming out of the loom to it. Plugged into this will be the other end of the wires from the OBC black box.
Remove the plug, and if you are lucky, you will find, tied to the loom nearby, a similar plug with just a loop of green wire connected to it. Plug this in, and your engine should start.

It's used when the OBC senses someone has cut you up at a junction, and is sounded along with the OBC "Two Fingers" pop-up module, which was an optional extra on all but SE 325i's.

Brian,

unfortunately the looped wire you mentioned is not there, before i start shorting things is it simply joining the 2 pins in that plug together?

I have found a plug that fits into the one in question in the garage on some old loom, shall i simply join the wires on that with a crimp connection and jobs done?

Thanks

Exactly that, except soldered joint rather than crimp would be better.
