I have a 318i auto, the diff has been making a terrible noise for sometime now, ive kept the oil topped up and put some stuff called mollyslip in but its seriously driving me mad now. What options do i have i.e do i replace it or what? Any suggestions would be appreciated.

I know a new one is going to be expensive but just wondered how much? one would be or roughly how much a recon one would be?

I have a very good one here form a late 318i touring
Its a manual car so not sure if the ratio is the same as yours?
If you collect it from MK you can have it for 30 quid.

318i touring diff would be close enough for a 318 auto. Either the same ratio or one different I would expect.
New diff would cost considerably more than the value of your car. Even a recon one would be a waste of money.
There are thousands of good second hand ones around, and failure is rare, so either get one from a scrapyard, or from a trustworthy source. I.e. Established zone member.
