just complete removing a 3.0 v8 engine from an e34 a friend is breaking.
its realy light.
a v8 might be a good engine for an e30 build as it so light being an ally block.

its a mates engine he bought the car for spares its a 1995(m) 530iv8 auto (chain driven)
the bhp in the v8 is about 220bhp and the engine is alot lighter than the old 3.5l 6 pot 12v.
more refined being a 32.valve. and better on fuel consumption.
definatly a candidate for an e30 project.

bmw make a 530i v8' i think it was from k reg on.
most ive seen have been auto's
they also made 535i v8's to replace the 535i straight 6 12v motor
and also 40l v8 and 50l v12 all 32v
engines were available in the seven series

i have two e34's a 520 24v and a 525i 24v.

and not forgeting my e30 325i

I've driven my old man's former E34 530i Tourer. It was nice but you had to rev the bejaysus out of it to get meaningful performance. Plus, it gave 19mpg no matter how you drove it. Nice engine but I'd say take the M52 2.8 or go for the 4.0 or 4.4 V8s if you're going to the trouble of a conversion. :)

theres no doubt you have to drive a v8 diffrtently. its an engine with tourqe you dont need to red line them ever. they dont work well like that

Nah, stick the V8 in (if you can find a mnaual gearbox). Okay so it's 'only' 218 bhp but they sound great and it'll go very well in an E30. A lot of work though. 8O

I'm not saying its a bad engine, I just think that a V8 needs more torque to be worthwhile. I'm sure it'll go like stink in an E30 (it was usefully rapid in the E34, if not earth shattering) but a good M52 2.8 wouldn't be far off and would be 50% better on fuel. Even if you're minted and don't worry about economy, surely its handy to able to do 250-300+ miles on a tank rather than having to stop and rejuice every 150-200 miles?

Anyway, best of British and throw up some pixs once its underway :thumb:

those engines arent actually that good. and they go through fuel like theres no tomorrow!!

however, if you have the time and money, it might be worth stripping it down and rebuilding it, to get the bores done, and the head skimmed and flowed etc, some TB's...

but is it really worth it? and even though its ally, it still aint gonna be REALLY light, and it is a big old lump you gotta try and squeeze in

Were these V8s the ones with the "Nikasil" problems ?
