hope this is not a repost, if so delete it or give me the link so i can read up on the info missed out.

In this months PBMW with Booty's lovely wagon there is another article called 3 PLAY, featuring scot players E30 along with another two E30s one M3 and a tubro, even though they go into depths of the work carried out on each engine, in my magazine there is nothing that states the overall performance of each car, the article just ends saying "turbo is clearly the only way".

All i want to know is does anyone know if they done any running of each vehicle to see how they performed, or is the ending statement above the final say.

All I know is TURBOBROWN was fastest 0-60 but didn't complete any other timing runs due to a TB issue, which has since been sorted.

I was told the figures but I don't know if that info is common knowledge or not winkeye

I'm also suprised they didn't publish them but I havent picked up my pbmw as yet.

so there is figures, come on fozzymonster, reveal all, i dont want the figures for the reason of making anyones vehicle look bad, just wanted to know as they have all put some time and money into there cars and gone different routes, it will also help other zoners who might be thinking of doing one of the three engine mods.

He he!

What a day that was!

Everyone was supposed to have 2 timed runs up to 100mph which both Scot and Keith managed.

Seem to recall that Keith's M3 got to 60 in around 7.5s and Scot's completed the 0-60 dash in 6.6s although I stand to be corrected. Can't remember the 0-100 times.

Anyway, I was last to have a go got up to somewhere over 60mph, was changing into 3rd gear when one of the throttles decided to stick shut and hold the other 5 wide open! 8O

So I had to kill it whilst doing 60mph and just stamp on the brakes.

Anyhoo, got to 60 in 6.3s which isn't all that great and should have improved given a second run, sadly though, the car went home on the back of a truck as I couldn't get the throttle balance back and it was idling at about 3000rpm after the incident.

Would guess that they didn't publish the figures as my car kinda spoiled the party in that respect, but that is just a guess :(
I will drop Louise a line and ask her, but i know she's out of the UK for a few days doing some shoots. I would be interesting to know that info
Would be interested to know what she recorded for the 0-100 runs (and if my memory is accurate too)

Shame they didn't have room for a cost comparison thing too.

Very true turbo brown, sorry to hear about your unfortunate incident, but the figures would have been nice, and like you said a cost comparison.

The reason why i asked is i have been looking around the zone and seeing quite a lot of people converting to Jap and other cars for the turbo's, superchargers and more power and performance, its making me wonder that a lot of people are getting disheartened with there E30's, or the mechanics who are carrying out the work are charging big money for little bhp and torque gains.

I do not know of one garage in or around my area that if i wanted to take my car up a notch to compete with some of the jap cars, they would not charge me Ԛ£8000 plus, is BMW engine modding for an E30 really that complex? All the powerful E30 videos i keep seeing come from Norway or Sweden, even though the cars look like they have no traction control, they seem to hit the figures.

But i know you three have taken time and spent some money, so thanks for the feed back.

No idea how much Scot and Keith spent on their engines, but having a pro carry out the work is always gonna cost a fortune!

My conversion cost about Ԛ£4500 all in, but it did take me a year of spare time and holidays to complete which I guess would easily have cost over Ԛ£10k if I'd had someone else do the work.

I am thinking of adding a supercharger to my 325 and have been told it adds about 100bhp and the cost seems quite reasonable at Ԛ£2k for the kit plus fitting of course..that would take it to 290bhp as just had it remapped on a rr and i am putting down 192 now...seems good value to me

same here Dave D with the same cost, only thing extra the mechanic told me to add was a motech air system which cost Ԛ£1000 so the total cost being Ԛ£3000 for an extra 120 to 170bhp, just hope the torque figures match.

Turbo Bown thats qutie a good amount of money spent there, and your right would have been double if you took it to one of these so called pro's. The guy i went to said Ԛ£12k with a reliable output of 450bhp could be adjusted to go up to 750bhp but no guarantee that my engine wont go :boom: so i decided not to :D

in my eyes anything from 150bhp upwards is ok, i know this sounds silly but unless you go on a track there is not enough road to do these speeds, especially in london, but i suppose its nice to have the power.

Hopefully fingers crossed i will begin my supercharger project next year. by the way turbo brown will your car be ready for the pod.

A 100bhp increase is entirely feasible on a low boost setup for the 2.5 M20 :) I managed it on just 7psi!

Unfortunately I've got a big ol' fuel leak at the mo so I need a new early type tank so I can't do more than about 20 miles without re-fueling! 8O

So Turbo Brown you wont be attending the pod. its a pity would like to have seen your car in action.

I have no idea what a motech air system is ha ha, as i know F all about engines let alone my own car  thats why i will probably get ripped off when i attempt to do this conversion. On the supercharger side of things, this will be coming from a company in Sweden, apparantly its a bolt on one that works with a pulley which i have to get made up. i will be buying it from this company below see the link

http://www.opcon.se/index.asp?sPage=1&langID=1&cID=14

Now back to the motech it should look something like the picture below, but just made by motech, lets hope i got the name right i am useless when it comes to these things :D

yeah at Ԛ£1k its a heart stopper, thats a good step by step link you have posted, looks quite easy (coming from a man who knows nothing :D ), liked the warnings to :D but as a complete kit it looks perfect with a price to match

Ha, ha. This is the proplem these day's. Everyone wants big power, but big power = big money unless you can do most of the work yourself and do it correctly at that. Theres no point what so ever in wasting months of your time if your car spends most of it's time sat in the garage cause you havent done things properly. Best thing to do is to have a strong 2.7 built, chuck 100bhp of Noz on it and be happy with it :D

Either that or you'd best learn to tickle your toes cause it will cost you major bang. I spoke too PPF about a turbo conversion and they wanted Ԛ£8k to Ԛ£9k for a single turbo conversion. Now imagine the cost of a twin turbo set up with a stand alone management system  winkeye

On that point, doing a TT conversion is pretty pointless if you follow the route I went.

Much better to put your thinking cap on and rig up a twin sequential system with one little turbo and then an almighty big one!

Hmmmmm, might have to have a go at that when my new toy arrives! winkeye

I'd recommend having a go at turbocharging to anyone if you can live without the car for a few months, the results are more than worth it and there's plenty of brains to be picked on the forum to make sure you don't go down a blind alley :)

Prob best to speak to Lennie ( Lentec ) about his SC'd e30. Having been in it I can say it's certainly got the power and the noise

It's not as aggressive as a turbo, nor as fast but the noise is cool and throttle response was lightening fast.

The only downside I can see with a SC on a e30 is that you have limited space for both SC and pulley, thats not to say there's any room left over after you bolt on a huge turbo but it can be done.

I personally havent spent anymore than Ԛ£2.5k on my conversion and that includes a few toys that it didn't need but I wanted anyway, also a 2nd turbo and new exhaust which again I didn't need but my need for speed over-ruled any of my wallets whinging!

Good luck with whatever you decide, it's all worth the effort IMO.

it goes where the aircon unit would go so space is not a prob and those are exactly the gains i would like.

i will consult further

There's always TBs to get that lightening with a turbo setup :D
