Just had fuel tank replaced and fuel pump is whining like a drowning cat - mechanic reckoned (hoped!) it'll settle down and is only playing up because it was removed & replaced.

Anyone had this problem and know the cause?

Its going for the MOT tomorrow so I'm hoping they don't notice it :x

Cheers in advance

Sphericals! If it's an early two pump system, and it's the one in front of the left wheel arch that is whining, then the tank pump isn't working.
If it's the later single pump, then I'd suspect the pump is touching the bottom of the tank, or in someway bypassing it's sound deadening arrangements.
MOT man wouldn't be interested even if it was loud enough to drown out the workshop radio.

Cheers

Its a 1989 325iSE so I'm presuming its the latter and the "feline in agony" screetch is coming from the rear....

Is the only way around this replacing the pump or is it possible that it'll settle down in time?

If its got to back in to the garage I'm going to go crazy mental ala my avatar :x :x :x
