'council mods' are great imho. i have kept my car fairly un-council because i dont like the image that goes with council mods, but big ass crome alloys and lowered to the floor cars rule! Black windows look great also!elf wrote:oh and just to mention

I think most of the council wrongness has been covered... how about -80mm lowering that does nothing for the looks, handling or ability to negotiate speed bumps

Ste , you f*cken hero !!, that list just about covers all known 'council crimes', i reckon the mods should make it sticky as a guide for newbies to prevent them mutilating their innocent chariots, we have enough here already !
.
P.S any more than a 30mm drop also constitutes a 'council crime'

howsit,
we must make a thread that hopefully becomes sticky,
This thread should list all decent brands/makes of stuff...
like list 1 or 2 decent quality OEM quality clear/angel eye projector lights, tail lights etc..
generally, u get what u pay for...
This council thing is hilarious, we also have like "council estates" here,
basically piece of land with low-cost/mostly no-cost housing on it.
im gonna start talking that things look "council". and no-one will have a CLUE what im on about.. that is talk it here...
my girlfriend has JUST flown to the UK to work for a few months....
i mentioned to her that u apparently also get dodgy areas in london etc..
she didnt want to believe me... now i can tell her.. lol
those that come to cape town south africa also intially get a very rosy picture... ask IAN323SPORT, he's been..
but i suppose us that live here, know of the dodgy places etc..
the big picture i suppose is that all countries have their issues...
oh wait... lets not get into politics..
onto more council mods.. muhahahha
cheers

Modifications you can't buy on eBay.FBF wrote:can someone start a non council thread? id like to see whats good moddage.. i like eyebrows and black grills
Things that make the car better to drive.
Things that aren't obvious - i.e. 99% of people wouldn't even spot them.
Things that don't look like they came out of a Christmas cracker.
More never means more. Less is always more.
Rare new old stock parts. That's why an Alpina centre vent computer in its original packet is cool, it's why Schnitzer aero mirrors are cool, it's why unused Hartge backboxes are cool... How many other people have them, how many can you buy on eBay with your pocket money?
A perfect modified e30 should look like it could have come straight out of the factory like that, yet is 'enhanced'. Nothing is added to make a statement or turn the heads of the unwashed, yet it might be packing 350bhp, Ԛ£5k paint, rolling on bespoke wheels, fully adjustable suspension and the driver's sitting on 3 cows worth of hide. You can pull up next to a muppet in their Evo 8 with Lexus lights and see him recede in your mirror from the lights and leave him thinking his arse has been handed to him by a standard car.
Basically, for inspiration look at cleaned.be as a starting point and go from there. (Admittedly there is a lot of council on there too.)

guys, i can help out in a certain section
ive been competing in IASCA sound quality competitions for a few years. my 1988 mazda 323 based pickup placed 3rd at the national finals last year.
i like high quality reference quality sound in my vehicles. the e30 is getting a big install soon with the following equipment:
nakamichi cd400
jl audio e4300 amplifier
jl audio 10w1v2 subwoofer
high quality stinger 1farad capacitor
kef coda 7 5.25inch mid woofers and tweeters with kef crossovers built into custom kickpanels
i wil start a dedicated thread to the install when i get there. must first finish the re-spray of the pickup,
its being done in BMW E90 SPARKLING GRAPHITE color! will look tit when done.
will post photos etc..
but, i'd like to give something to e30zone, and that is when i start competing with the E30 (325i 4dr minter)
i'd like to post help/tips on howto build a car audio system that will make you want to ditch your midi/maxi hifi at home for nad/mission/celestion/arcam equipment...only to be able to hear sounds at home u hear in the car

oh yes, one more thing..
a sound quality vehicle is not one that can be heard booming a mile away "council style"
its a vehicle that has been well sound-proofed dampened,
my pickup when playing loud, about 125db's inside, outside it sounds quieter than most standard radios sound
in factory installs when they are loud.
a good sq(sound quality) system typically produces 125 - 130db's of spl with a single 10inch woofer in an optimised enclosure.
believe it or not.. thats loud enough to damage your hearing when exposed for too long. so in other words its LOUD ENOUGH. most of the time it'll get listened to at normal listening level.
there are only 2 major-ish design challenges i have with the E30.
1) to cutout a 12" hole in the rear shelf for the woofer cone in the sub enclosure to fire directly INTO the cabin, secondly my rear-strut bar is on its way. and once that is installed it'll be difficult to build a box around it..
2) i need about 4litres of space for each kickpanel to be optimal, this is going to be imposible to achieve, keeping in mind both kickpanels should be similiar in size, and on the driver side u have the accelerator in the way.
watch for a post in the next couple of weeks

)
And why would i even entertain looking at the list Ste made, have you seen the car in his sig, very original init

Council...
Motorsport convertibles because they are trying so hard, they've gone through cool back round to council.
M3 Cabs. Defies the point of having a proper homologation shell? Posers car? Fair enough if that's what it is.
Magical trees.
Any extra chrome.
Not having an LSD is council.
Non-uprated/M-Tech suspension.
Limo tints.
There is more, but ste covered many above!

Not a silly example at all. From a 'looks' point of view (as in the whole council thing) Ants car looks standard and is in a mag feature - well 3 mag features. Ok granted, if it wasnt force fed it probably wouldnt be featured, but the point is it doesnt have all the 'council' bits and is still in a mag.bajandaan wrote: Maybe if Ant never had the turbo in his car, it would not have got featured so thats a silly example

At the end of the day, if you like your own car, that's all that matters.
Providing that you accept it won't be to everyones tastes. And the fact that Pacerpete will use his 'ridiculing stick' from 100 paces!

He'd use it from closer, but he doesn't like to walk too far & apparently the ridiculing stick's charger drains the car's battery. Or something.Davenotouring wrote:At the end of the day, if you like your own car, that's all that matters.

I can recommend Halford's plain black tax disc holders or the magnetic ones they do, but painted black. I'm afraid I have this disease bad. I do so many stupid little things to my cars and nobody would ever notice. I have a magnetic one as the stick on vinyl ones rinkle ever so slightly and sag. I buy the magnetic ones and paint them satin black.Ziggy wrote:Damn - I need a new tax disc holder. Hadn't really considered it before, but you're undoubtedly right!

I reckon black mats are always a good thing. It's the best colour for not showing up shoe dirt!
