waste of time mate, the council arent interested! you fill out the form, wait six months, then they say "you should have been driving slower"...

i've cracked my lip spoiler on my iS too, from F*CK*NG speed humps!!! BASTARD THINGS!!! get a photo to back up anything though.

my mate from college hit a pot hole that ruined is alloy wheel. he rang the council, gave them details, and the council went and filled in the holes and denied it ever happened! they're all scum, they're just a small scale government!!

My mates mrs managed to drive over a brick (!) outside a council building site, got a full payout and had the SET of wheels replaced as they were NLA! this was in an mr2

Another mate had about Ԛ£1200's worth of damage on his series 2 after hitting a pothole, also paid out for.

Get pics and persue it, make sure they know your serious and know your rights. Not sure how you stand with things like speedbumps tho.

new spoiler is Ԛ£300 from sytners and about Ԛ£80 to get sprayed. Thats if your spoiler is beyond repair mate.

I can help u get the decals for it too no problem. PM me

My alpina is lowered 60mm on the front and with the spoiler is interesting to say the least but i have only scraped it about 5 times in 6 odd months, even being careful and going very slow over humps. I now have a brand new one on there and shall be even more careful!

I was under the impression you cant do anything about speed humps? Only pot holes,
If I go over the speed humps round here I literally ground the car on the sump guard, I have to go over the both of the single humps at about 5mph driving down the middle of the road :(

Same here over the middle, but there is one that i go over at 5mph and my sump scrapes like crazy, had two people in the car once and they had to get out so i could clear the hump as the car became wedged

I hate bastard speed humps!! Don't quite know where you stand with these but i think i'll have a crack at claiming something just to annoy croydon council some more!!
Used to have a 1 minute drive to my lockup - now they've put humps in that i can't get over, i have to go a long way round and takes almost 10 minutes during the day!!!!!!

I find the full width ones are slightly better if you take them diagonally, and the little ones i can clear with the wheels either side, but when i've got stuff in the back i keep the left wheel clear and the right wheel on the hump so the exhaust won't scrape! I'm always the one doing 2mph over them though with a big queue of cars behind me!

Surely if you spend you life working and saving and buy your dream car, pay your insurance and road tax, you should be entitled to drive it on any public roads without it being damaged!!!
There's a max height that humps have to comply with too, but i dunno what it is!!

Once lost the exhaust off my mini to a speed hump at the exit of a car park :x Why would you put a hump under an exit barrier?????????? There wasn't one on the way in and i couldn't get out without going over it. Wankers!!!!!

Sorry, rant over - back to work!

I complained once about a very badly installed speed bump which kept catching my exhaust quite badly. My tech 1 at the time was completely standard.

The council wrote back to me saying they have looked into it and its found to be satisfactory and meets all the guidance. I rang him up to ask how he investigated it....he said "I drove over it in my car twice"...which happened to be a shitty pug 205.

They make no allowance for cars which sit low as standard - thank fcuk they dont investigate murders

And people complain when their insurance bill goes up.
On topic, there are design criteria somewhere stating the maximum height, slope etc for traffic calming devices. Try and find this document then check that the offending speed bump to make sure it's legal. If it isn't you have a case.

But they are all legitimate claims due to faults with the road or others not taking care of their work hence the brick.

I cant see the council paying out for anything to do with speed bumps unless you can prove the speedbump is too steep, too high, too long blah blah.....Im sure since they started popping up everywhere they have had to revisit some of the early ones as they were just any old shape and size.

I do about a four mile journey to work and hit 70 of the useless things every day, thats just one way.
Lowering the car is just not an option, i remember hearing that the height of them can not exceed 10cm but you best find that in writing before you get the ruler out.

Would love to find that document - i'm pretty damn confident there's a load near me that are to big!! Struggle to get over them without scraping in a standard vectra!!

the maximum height for a speed bump is 100mm.if its higher than that claim if not dont waste your time.if theyve been newly layed they could be to high but tend to be sorted quick once the claims start coming in.i put in a compaint when new ones near me were fitted as they were 125mm high and scraped my gearbox even at 1 mph.they were sorted quick. winkeye

I have no problems with speed bumps or sumps dragging but then again i haven't 'removed' my suspension like some here ! :) . I am currently working on a minty 40000 mile motorsport cab , some **** has lowered it what seems like 80mm all round ,i can't even get a jack under it, needless to say it drives like shit ,bounces all over the road and has 1/2 " shaved off the front spoiler !

its not the height of the the speed bump ,the problem is that the concrete that is fitted so that the tar dosent get damaged was loose and sticks up 20mm higher than the bump it is on a bus route .

We had these problem around here, so some sad geek pointed out that nearly every installation of speed humps was different. some were to high, to low, to wide, not painted, so on so on....

It proved that the council was not checking the humps were up to spec....

I used to have an Escort, Kitted up Cossie bumpers etc. Very 'CHAV' I know. I hit a raised manhole on some Roadworks and totally wrecked the front bumper. Council did'nt give a Monkey's toss. You're probably waisting your time trying to make a claim. :x

heres one for you.....

A friend of mine, kitted up Escort cossie, lowered, not to much.....went to the states for 2 months, car in garage, his miss's did not drive it..while he was away, council installed speed humps around his estate, he could not get his car over the humps without scraping on the front and rear skirts/aprons......had a 12 month battle to get council to do somthing...turned out humps were too high and too narrow..

some of the humps around here are just blocks of tarmac, slopes are nere 75Ԛ°
