I'm after some connectors to hook up my electric fan switch (e36) and MAF (M52). Can I buy the connectors and casing from BMW, I can't find anything on the ETK? Any advice appreciated!
Cheers

just to add have you set up your etk to show all files as there is a abbreviated setting on the front page and if its not enabled you will not have the full etk displayed....go to default values and check the box to show detailed and not compressed

I think the 4 pin round connector for the MAF is 61 13 1 392 222, and the rubber boot that goes over the back of it is 12 52 1 719 519.

As for the electric fan switch, it depends if you have the early switch with a round connector with fairly chunky pins, or the later small connector with very small pins.

If you have the early connector you need 61 13 1 378 410 and 3 pins 61 13 0 007 442. If you have the later then you are stuffed. I've never managed to find a connector for this switch. You are better off getting the early switch instead.

Ian.

I have to buy the round connectors for the MAF separately I take it? Don't spose you'd know off hand what dia. they are?
one quick last question, fusebox spring clip, do you have a p/no for them?
Sorry to be a pita, and thanks for the help!

Do you mean the pins that go in the plastic MAF connector ?

Should be 2.5mm dia.

Is this for the fuses, or the relays ?

Cheers,

Ian.

yeah pins for the MAF, I've used some female molex (PC H/D connectors) for now. And the spring clip is for a fuse for the eleccy fan I've added
Thanks again for the help, I was really struggling to find those parts!

You can get the MAF pins (actually used on quite a lot of different connectors) from the dealer, but they only seem to supply them with a length of wire pre crimped into them. You have two choices depending on the diameter of the wire that will be fitted.

61 13 0 007 449 - small wire (0.5 - 1 mm sq)
61 13 0 007 450 - medium wire (1 - 2.5 mm sq)

If you just want the pins (or sockets in this case), you can get them from RS under part number 273-5354.

I'm sure BMW can probably supply the fusebox terminals, but I've never been 100% sure of the part number. I did however manage to find an alternative supplier:

Scroll down until you find part number 30-852. These are the same as the BMW ones, but take a fairly chunky wire. I have never found it a problem fitting smaller wires, but do tend to add a drop of solder to make sure they are good and secure.

For reference, the relay terminals in the fusebox are just regular spade terminals that have the little latch on the back to hold them in the housing. You can see them here under part number FBL6 & FBL66.

Cheers,

Ian.

Thanks again for your help!

The BMW dealers should have a catalogue of connectors, fasteners, etc. that is relatively easy to browse and pick out the parts you need. My local dealer gave me the loan of his copy, so I phtocopied it. Think he was sick of trying to locate obscure clips, etc. from the ETK for me!
