What rev should a 325i be showing at tickover(idle). Know there is a download on here but for some reason it wont open for me.

Cheers Zaust, mines running at 1000, got a feeling ive disconected something somewhere and this is affecting the car running cold. Will take a look tonight.

Funny mine does the same, cant figure out what's causing it. I have a spare AFM I've bought to try and see that clears it up.gooner1 wrote:Cheers Zaust, mines running at 1000, got a feeling ive disconected something somewhere and this is affecting the car running cold. Will take a look tonight.

No disrespect Zaust and Kam but can anyone confirm what it should be, not that it makes to much difference as it sounds like mine is def too high.

It very by car. All my 325i's idle differently. I wouldnt be bothered if it idled at 1000rpm. My sport is at 800rpm, my last tech 1 was 1000rpm as was my 320i

Idle speed is programmed into the ECU, and on a standard car it should be well within spec. Any different, and there's a fault.massive wrote:It very by car. All my 325i's idle differently. I wouldnt be bothered if it idled at 1000rpm. My sport is at 800rpm, my last tech 1 was 1000rpm as was my 320i

Check your throttle position switch is working properly as a first step. If this doesn't tell the ECU that it's supposed to be idling, then it won't.

It had a tendancy to stay at 1/4 an not go much higher. I've replaced the blue sensor, cleaned everything up (IVC/AFM), replaced the throttle body with a BBTB so the switch should be fine on there, check for vacuum leaks and replaced various hoses. I've not gotten around to doing a full check of the electrics yet but its on the list just as soon as I get the exhaust finished so I can run it without fear of an ASBO from the neighboursgooner1 wrote:Let me know how you get on mate will you, btw is your temp gauge normal or does it stay in the blue?.JazzMan wrote:Funny mine does the same, cant figure out what's causing it. Anywhere on the gauge is fine as long as it's clear of the blue and red sections. The gauge is not linear - the whole centre section just covers a few degrees.

isn't the idle speed different for manual and auto cars (as brian said dictated by the ECU), thought the slush box idles a bit higher to compesate for losses in the torque converter? (and therefore the only reason to swap the ECU when converting from auto to manual??)

Right, while the guru's are about
Mine (manual 325i facelift) Idles at 1000 for a minute or two at start up in the mornings and then settles down to the 700 ish level. Does this initial high idle indicate a problem??

Does it intermitantly do this at juctions for example? My old 325i did that also.Wiggy wrote:Right, while the guru's are about![]()

Seems as if it is the TPS, moved butterfly on throttle body and no click(s) but got a throttle body couple of months earlier that i was intending to polish up and that clicks very clearly.Just got to work out how to connect it
as its a later type and a bit different to the one on car. Do you reckon all the work i carried out ,timing belt ,water pump etc caused this, cos car ran sweet as after initial run

Not the direct cause,no. It's a simple fact of life that E30 TPS's, positioned as they are, need cleaning out from time to time. They also suffer from people "adjusting the idle stop"gooner1 wrote:. Do you reckon all the work i carried out ,timing belt ,water pump etc caused this,

im having idle problems on a 2.7 ive just fitted it was dieing when i had to bring the car to a stop so i have had to adjust the throttle stop screw so far it no longer activates the switch.is there a way totest the switch before i go to the trouble of replacing it.(it was clicking but does that mean it was working?)
its going for a remap and set up on saturday so im hoping this will solve the problem

tell me about it, i was hoping for some enlightenment from him as to where to look for the cause of the problem so i can fix it rather than masking it.massive wrote:ooooh, Brianmooore will not be happy with you!!beardymat wrote: so i have had to adjust the throttle stop screw so far it no longer activates the switch.
