Bmw E30 with 540i motor ?

Hi ppl ....i need some help
I would like to put a 540i motor in my e30....but i would like to know if it would be worth it & a good idee in totel

I got the know how and i plan to do a desent job of it and the cash wil come in bit by bit

i plan on useing the complete 540....as in Suspension, motor , gearbox (M) if possable , diff , driveshaft , modifide side shafts , computer box (with the help of a fuel manegement systems.......and the fun thing would be that the 540i has got standerd ABS....& Limmeted slip diff

Im sure it would be a fun car to darive ...but would it be possible ......and maby a smaller moter would do the trick ?
535i 528i or something ?

Please let me know if you guys have any sugestens/edwise ?

welcome,anythings possible if your serious.but would you really need to use the suspension,diff and sideshafts? using an e30 lsd would be less work with only a custom prop possibly neccesary and unless the suspension is a straight swap youd be as well using uprated e30 stuff.

540i as in V8?? Always a good idea

Fitting the engine and box will be do-able, but using the 540i suspension, diff, drive shafts etc etc will be a hell of a lot of work.

at last someone doing a worthwile project.. those engines are amazing. i used to drive a 540 touring and it was tail out fun in any weather and she would eat standard scoobys on the motorway over 50mph.. i beg you to do this conversion.

its a doable thing, seen an E30 with the V8 u speak of, go for it mate!

look in the back issues of TBMW (i think Jan/Feb 2002/2003) they feature a E30 with a 4.4 V8 in there. may give you some ideas.

Well thanks for all the help & suport ......
will deff keep you all posted .......i got the coplete 540..Beemer this weekend witch will be the doner for this transplant........the body is in bad shape ....so i dont feel sorry for striping out its guts ...lol
and i atlesed got its running this weekend .....next step would be the mesuring of the suspension & mods ....
Im geting it to stop and turn first before is go ahead with the motor transplant will take some pic and post it on the page ........." watch this space "

update- the issue in question is Jan 2004 with the 4.4 in the E30
