Ok, my situation is a bit shit at the moment, i was gonna fix the sport but i really want a different car, so i was wondering if it would be better money wise for me to break it for parts instead of repairing...tax and mot'ing then selling, way i see it is if i fix it and put it on the road thats near enough Ԛ£400 gone, how much would you normaly get back breaking a tech 1 sport?

whats wrong with it?
But I've been in the same situation myself, if you can be arsed to strip it, package each part and sell on ebay you very often will make the same amount of money on a breaker than the equivelant straight vehicle. Its just far more hassle selling alot of parts than one whole car. And some parts will sell quick some you;ll have in storage for months before you shift them.

Craig, have you had a quote to fix it ?Dominitry wrote:Rear quater panel has a dent in it, i would sell whole but that would mean fixing it.
What condition is the rest of it in - always looks nice in the piccies?
Shame to break really as they are getting quite uncommon in a decent state.

Tried to get a quote for months now, everyone keeps saying i'll come down and quote etc, about 9 people i think now, but never do so im just fcuked off with it now, apart from the dent the bodywork is brilliant, underneath is solid, kits been off and no rust etc, but i just cant be bothered anymore, im young so the jap bug is kicking in.

I'd try selling it as it is then? If you're honest about the damage when you sell it, someone who's keen to get a decent tech-1 sport may well take it on & get it sorted out themselves straight away? It does still drive doesn't it? You'd obviously struggle to shift it if you're restricting yourself to people with trailers!
Can't do any harm to stick up a for sale post. As far as I know, Placey's still after a tech-1 for a start...

Your choice man, What would you want for it if you sold it? and when would you sell? car markets slow at the moment, might pick up a bit soon though as it usually cools off over x-mas too as everyone is selling but hardly any buyers, again wrong time of year if you break as well as many DIYers won't want to fix anything outside on the drive in winter.
What do you think its worth as it is? Either way your gonna be takin a risk of making a loss on it you always will. What do you think its worth in parts? and remember to budget for postage, and removal of whats left over when your done, and storage if you have to hang on to anything longterm.

yeah just saw a piccy of the damage, you'd struggle to get that with no MOT, no TAX and the damage!
Maybe breaking is the best option, but your gonna be pretty unpopular for it!

No harm in advertising it as that as a whole though, maybe if an enthusiast was that keen on keeping it on the road they would pay that, just a thought. And its not like you find a good one for sale everyday. Just a thought.

fix the bastard and sell it to someone who knows what it's worth, generalising a bit but most tech 1's are now dead or almost dead bar the few exceptions!

get the most money you can.. its easy for everyone to say dont break it, but are they gonna buy it? of course not. do whats best for your pocket. incidentally i hate rice burning jap car but you cannot knock them for reliabilty, price and build. they are probably one of the best car making nations in the world.

that looks like an expensive repair to do properly to me. But if as u say if it really is solid.
u won't buy any good jap cars for the money u would make either way imo
I'll have the gearbox please if u break!

I'd sell it mate, purely for the fact you said you dont have a working car, if you break it it will take a while to get the money in your hand, yes you may make a little more but if you put it up for sale you can get rid of it and move on, it does look like an expensive repair to me too but don't let that put you off or put it up for a silly cheap price, the sort of person woh is likely to buy that would be someone either in the repair trade or someone with friends who are.
Ask the money for it you think it worth in parts and see how it goes.

Craig frag the turd, that damage looks nasty, rear quarter, rear panel, repair the boot floor etc etc, to fix PROPERLY i would guess at around Ԛ£1000 ++. I would be very suprised if the n/s door to b post shut lines hadn't closed up a bit or if the roof hadn't kinked at the rear edge of the sunroof.
As it is you would struggle to get Ԛ£5/600 for it but as you know it will frag to Ԛ£1500. The first grand will happen in a week relatively painlessly , the balance will take a while. RIP another chrome turd !

Pete you sexy mofo, the boot floor is all straight as is everything else expcept the rear quarter panel,, boot doesnt shut tidy yet still locks etc, it's a shame as i've only done 100 miles in it since i've owned it, and all those miles are on a track.
As said, if i can get Ԛ£1500 in parts for it then a mate imports cars from japan really cheap so 2k will see me with the car i want all registered and road going in the UK.

Craig do you know how much it costs to insure imports
I say frag it, don't sell it as it is, pete is right, Ԛ£500 is all you'll get.
In one day:
Slipper off Ԛ£200+
Leather: Ԛ£300+
OBC?: Ԛ£80
BBS:Ԛ£150
As you can see, thats a lot more than the Ԛ£500 you'll get for it if you sell it like it is. You still have the tech1 kit in desirable met black too.
2 cents, do what is best for your pocket.
