I'm looking at a nice lil white 4dr SE 325i and noticed that part of the air intake is blocked off and I can remember from my last e30 that there is usually two pipes that run in to it but for the life of me can't remember what for... anyone shed anylight.
Would this also suggest that the it's had an engine replacement at somepoint?

I have had both types. Some Throttle Bodies have two hoses that come out to the brake servo, and some with just one hose. There are three types of throttle body inlet hoses, and two types of Idle Control Valves. All gets very confusing, and so it could be a case of the wrong part being ordered when something was replaced.

Ahhh yes, you can see in the background a pipe leading to the servo a bit further up.

You have an early type hose on a late car, or the servo feed arrangements have been changed to the later type.
Early cars have two feeds to the sevo, later cars just the one.
If anyone knows the reasons behind the early arrangement, I would be interested to know.

Is is easy to change this round from two to one and not using the pipe on the boot, id save a lot of space with the single pipe arrangment?

Yes, you will need to block of the extra hole in the throttle body, or get hold of a throttle body that only had the one pipe, and get all the hoses from a car that only has the one pipe arrangement. Should be simple enough to find some second hand somewhere.

I did this on one of my cars when I needed an intake boot, and only had the type without the branch available. Couldn't detect any difference in the brakes at all.
