I had this problem that the interior door handle wouldn't return to the standard position when the door opened. Basically the handle, stayed out until pushed back in. I was told it was a small spring in the handle, so today I tackled this very annoying problem.

It wasn't as simple as replacing the handle.

I took the locking system off my spare 320i and found out indeed that there was a spring missing off the convertible lock, by way of removing the door card and putting a mirror in the door, under the glass to check for the spring.

Having replaced the missing spring on the Motorsport it works fine now, boy what a tricky job.

I now need another spring to replace on the 320i.

But I carn't seem to find this loaded spring on the OEM

Anybody had a similar problem or know of this spring. I think its a part of the lock.

Cheers Gareth.

Why do you need to replace it when you're going to break 320...?

Glad you got it sorted though.

Let me know if you stumble across any decent accident damaged (preferably rear ended) E34 535i's... Should be plenty that have been stolen and damaged over your way... gotta be a manual though. 8)

This spring is part of the door lock at the bottom, it loads up the lever item 5 which in turn loads up the interior door handle!.
