I was wondering if anyone could tell me how i go about importing a 325i sport to canada? Anyone know of a company that will do this?
Any help is appreciated.
Thanks much,
Mitch.

i was looking into importing a touring form Canada that was imported from germany. I spoke to the guy and found out it is cake when the car is over 25 years old but he had a mess of test that the car had to pass. should be easyer to import to canada then to the US as you have less resrictions. I would plan on spending over $2000 to have it imported. If you go through an importing company expect to pay twice that. then all the local dept checks and tests. In the end i couldn't justfiy spending $10000 on a touring even if it was mint. just my $0.02

And im budgeting $3000 for the shipping and fees. So around 6k and ill get a 325i sport with some tastful mods hopfully. But im thinking ill keep the suspension from my current 325i.

if its your own car and youve owned it for a long enough period than you'll save a fortune on import duty. as for just putting the car on a boat and having it delivered, you should know that importing a car isnt that simple. theres a fair bit of paperwork to done at the canadian end.. what i would suggest you do is to get in touch with a shippimg compnay via google and get advice from the expertsthey will also put you in the direction of an agent in canada who will do all the correct paperwork at a cost of about $600 ish... and trust me its WELL WORTH the money

I know it is alot more than putting it on a boat. I just meant to get it here, i realize how much work there it to it. But i figured, once it is in Canada, ill just need it to pass regularions and then ill worry about getting the vehicle put in my name.
And i didnt expect it to be 5k. But i also would not be surprised if it was.

i can tell you that shipping from the US to the UK (ive done it a few times) costs about Ԛ£2200 and thats doing it myself.. conversion is probably about 5000 bucks expect to pay 3000 bucks just for the boat trip without any other costs

it all depends on so many things commercial vehicles are subject to a 22.5% tax plus VAT on the cost of the car and the cost of the shipping im playing with 10 grand cars here... that said canada is even further to ship than the states so that wont help the costs.

Newfoundland. Im the Furthest point East in NA. Cars coming to Canada are dropped off in Nova Scotia. So in fact, shipping would be cheaper.Jimb wrote:where abouts in Canada are you?

I shipped a 1990 BMW from Switzerland to Vancouver back in 2001. It cost just as much...and took 3 times longer, to ship across Canada as it did to cross the Atlantic. Cost me $5,600 total shipping. However because mine was so pristine (it only had 2,450 miles) I put it in it's own container. RORO is much cheaper...but they also get you with insurance. It's expensive!
Good luck.

Also, when you re-registered your car in Canada, how much did it cost?
Thanks,
Mitch
