injectors can tick, you can get them reconditioned by most Bosch agents
another tick type sound can often be caused by the exhaust manifold blowing a bit, often if you have any snapped studs or the gasket is wanked

Im near certain its my injectors,,ive been told though that this happens to alot of cars and that its nothing to worry about..TBH its not overly loud i.e it cant really be heard with the bonnet down.
According to the Haynes manual you should be able to hear the injectors ticking, the ticking should rise and fall with the engine revs. It's quite loud and normal if you ask me.A really good way to reduce the noise level inside the car is to remove the steering wheel centre cap and stuff the cavity behind it with Bluetack.Presumably the under bonnet foam insulation is intact?
If it ain't broke..

Ya it could be the injectors. at first i thought it was the tappets and so did ythe bmw mechanic and then i bought a new inlet manifod that had som injectors in it so i changed the manifold and while i was there i cleaned the injectors out with carb clener and rigged up a power supply to make them operate and also left them in a n ultra-sonic bath for a couple of hours and what can i say. brilliant now, at least an 90% reduction in the ticking noise.

mine seems to be ok when the car is cold but gets quite loud when its hot. the cam doesnt seem worn and ive done the tappets 3 times getting progressively tighter each time.....im trying the tappets once more then im getting my injectors professionally cleaned i think. ive got an m30 in mine but it shouldnt make a difference.
i would just leave it but its annoying me having a 335 sound like a washing machine on spin cycle
