I thought that wouls get your attention. Now when the E30 came out it was one of the most stolen cars here in Ireland. The thieving scrots loved to joyride in them. So whats the story now ? Do you guys have problems from time to time ? Are your door locks interfered with by screwdrivers ? All comments welcome.

Mmmmmmm this was always the way here as well. I have just got pics of a 325i cab and the locks lokk like they have been done. It might be enough to stop me buying one. I dont need the stress of that worry everytime i park it somewhere.

I think its got more to do with where the car is parked than what kind of car it is. E30s are hardly going to outrun a copper in a T5....and noone go posting that M3 vs the Cops vid again, that was in America where they think 80 is fast!

Luke,
I'm in Dublin but have never had trouble with the 318is.
That said, before we got the car the passanger door and boot locks had been replaced at some point.
Don't let it put you off - just get a disc lock for the wheel and install a tracker if you're worried.
John

Somebody has had a go at mine with a screwdriver and ripped the rubber arround the door. Didnt take it though (i dont think!). Im guessing it happened when the car was fairly new.

I came home to find out that my brother had left my keys in the car and then had subsequently drilled a hole in the passenger lock to get into the car
what made it worse still was the fact that I had a spare key sitting at home doing fook all...That's really the only time someone has messed with the locks, I was not a happy bunny...

ive never had any problems with that sort of thing in the year that ive owned the car thankfully.the car gets lots of attention from the local boy racers but only because theyve heard about my motor as im in a small town and just want to see it and chat.i take the time to chat and be friendly and its worked so far.one night all the cars in my street got keyed along the sides and tyres slashed but mine was the only one they didnt touch,my neighbours must have thought it was me

If these scumbuckets really want to steal a car they'll do it. With the best anti theft technology in your car, they'll just break into your house an steal your keys. This I think is scary as they will have no qualms about hurting you or your family to get the keys.

No lock can stop anyone getting into a car that has glass windows.
Any car can be towed away, but if you want to stop someone driving it away, then arrange for a switch - either a hidden ordinary one, or as part of an immobiliser, to short circuit the supply to the fuel pump.
Ant attempt to bypass or switch on the ignition will result in fuse 11 blowing, the engine half starting, then dying again.
To get around this, the potential thief would first have to work out what's happened, then dig his way into the fuel pump, disconnect the original supply and hotwire the pump direct from a live supply.
If you want to make it even more thiefproof, arrange to switch a capacitor between the coil negative terminal and earth. Get the capacitor value right, aqnd the engine will just about run for a couple of seconds or so.

I suppose it depends how much they want your car, if they turn up with a truck they can pick your car up off the street onto a low loader but I have only heard this done with really expensive 4X4's.
My car is garaged and wouldnt buy a place that didnt have a garage unless I could rent one locally.
There are lots of things to help, removable steering wheel, stoplock, immobilisers/alarms

i had to have a thatchan car 2 immobiliser fitted to my mk2 rs2000 for insurance purposes but that would never stop anyone who knew a escort nicking it as the wiring is sooooo simple!
for this reason, i used to have a fuel cut-off valve hidden underneath, mad-max stylee! the only problem was that it would go 100 yds on the fuel in the carbs and the conk out in the middle of the road! most annoying but effective!

There are a few companies that sell a safety and/or tinted film that will resist hammer blows, not unlimited but enough for them to give up and move on to something easierBrianmoooore wrote:No lock can stop anyone getting into a car that has glass windows.
Take a look at this

Just watched the video on that link, the guy is repeatedly hitting the window with half a brik and it still does not even break

That's the problem! ALL of the alarms that have been fitted to the E30s I have had dealings with wouldn't hold me up for more than a minute, using stuff I normally cary in my car.e36boy wrote:Just get a decent alarm,

all of a sudden, the image of one of the most respected members of the E30zone community is reduced to that of a common thieving scum!!!!!
the power of the internet unleashed!
now i'm wondering if brian nicked that lovely looking farmhouse and towed it away with his tourer!
