hi,
I have just bought a 89' 325i and have experienced a few probs. First is an idle problem. When the car is on idle (cold or warm) and the throttle is blipped, the revs dont rise but actually fall. this sounds like an air leak but i have checked all except inlet manifold, could it be caused by an o2 sensor or idle control valve? im stuck!
second is very annoying, When the ignition is on the fuel pump is constantly running and circulating fuel, even when the engine is off. I have fitted a new fuel pressure control valve as this was believed to be the cause of both probs, you can hear this "hissing" as the fuel flows through it. Does the pump have an electronic pressure cut off, or is it normal to always run?
Please help as i am stuck!!

first ben, welcome
glad u r here, u should get all the help u need of the zone..for free! from some very nice and safe peeps, so be good
jus jokin
ok, 89, is an m20 engine, motonic.
the air feed is analog so delay in the pedal as u explain is quite normal, but a good unit (afm) or a reconned unit will have a better contact with the tracks on the inside of the unit which sends signal.
some peeps have done a afm to maf conversion but this is bucks and u need a separate chipset to control the maf as it is a digi set up
but u could well have a split in the pipe dude..
the pump will Ԛ´whineԚ´ as u turn on the ignition to II but shouldnt be pumpin if the key is out if u know what i mean
if u reckon its workin out of sorts then an elecs man by the name of Brianmooore can help for deffo, also a man by the name Ant, is quite handy in such matters
but all of us have a fair bit of u know who when it comes to E30Ԛ´s
we luv em

thanks for your advice,
ive tried every pipe under the bonnet......... no splits. Gonna have to check the inlet manifold gasket on friday me thinks....
Fuel pump always runs when ignition on and stops when you turn it off. Apparently there is a "timer type" relay that runs for a certain time and then switches the pump off, then waits for a electronic signal to tell it the engine is running so it can turn back on? heard of that?
e30's are the best cars.... this site does them justice....
